Glass Fiber

Basics

• Thin fibers of glass
• Can be used for Composite Materials or Optical Fiber
• Also if made into Glass Wool it can be used for Insulation
• "Although not as rigid as carbon fiber, it is much cheaper and significantly less brittle when used in composites." (need to double check this)
• Can be in the following forms:
  • Continous Fiber Reinforcement
  • Chopped Fiber Reinforcement
  • Fiber Matting Reinforcement (Essentially a Non-Woven Fabric )
  • Fiber Textile Reinforcement (may need to be changed to fabric? essentially woven with longer fibers than the matting, also thinner?)
