"Where does carbonate come from in nickel iron batteries? From the atmosphere - carbon dioxide in the air dissolves to make carbonic acid, and the basic electrolyte reacts with the carbonate to make KCO3? - U. Chicago"

Could keeping it in a container of intert gas (nitrogen (not certain if this is "inert" in this case), or argon) prevent this? Given PSA Nitrogen Generators are makerspace level complexity, this could be easily done in my opinion.
