Would a Sand Bath be of use for more consitant heating? Granted it still would only heat the edges, and if even heating is desired Fluidized Bed Pyrolysis or Entrained Flow Pyrolysis are the only "real" ways to do that.

But it could just be done with a "metal bucket" the paint can goes in.

Also metal scrap/"shot" vs sand?
