Data Analysis Task - Predictive Build Time Model - Internship Context and Proposed Contribution
For context, OSE is not a conventional internship environment. OSE operates as a build-and-produce learning system. Participants contribute to real projects, such as housing production, open hardware development, and documentation, while learning in a hands-on setting.
Given your background in data science and statistics, one relevant area of contribution would be developing a build-time prediction model for construction.
This would involve:
- Estimating construction time based on design inputs, such as part count, connections, component size or weight, and module complexity
- Breaking build time into granular operations, such as cuts, fasteners, placements, and related tasks
- Comparing predicted versus actual build times and refining the model
A target would be to reach approximately ±25% accuracy at the module level.
Next Step
Please outline how you would approach this problem over an 8–12 week period. Specifically:
- What variables you would track
- How you would structure an initial model
- How you would test and improve it
OSE is not looking for a complete solution at this stage, only a clear and practical starting approach.
Based on that response, OSE can determine whether there is a strong fit and define a potential project scope.
