For materials sourcing - we want to use non-strategic resources. Non-strategic resources are ones that are by their nature abundant - such as clay for smelting aluminum or soil for growing plants for bioplastics - and do not tend to cause resource conflicts over their procurement. Reliance upon non-strategic resources helps to bring about peaceful relations between regions. From the OSE perspective, it is useful to figure out how to provide needs via reliance on common, abundant feedstocks.

This is a review of both the fabrication strategy and other elements:

  1. Go through Fabricability Checklist
  2. Design for Tolerancing Review
  3. Tool choice - is the proposed tool choice effective, or could other tools speed up fabrication?
  4. Location of fabrication
  5. Fabrication strategy - Should we build in house or outsource to another producer?
  6. Review of materials sourcing - could cheaper, closer, better, local, or other materials be substituted.
