Apparently, the H264.mov files are best edited with a Mac, but I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.  If someone with a Mac "saves as", that might be helpful. The end point is a file that can be processed with a free (as in freedom) system to have .srt added to it and then uploaded to youtube etc.
I used a Mac with iMovie to "save as" in m4v format, then uploaded that to youtube, then simply added the .srt file (see below). If you translate into other languages, just say so in this page!


I've looked at the English file with Totem, where the file can be watched without problems, and it tells me:

* use this .srt file to create a video.  I need help with this.  I saved the lines that follow (from "1" to "que hacer") as ose-es.srt ("es" as in "español" = "spanish"); in Spanish there are "tilded" characters which means I need to use utf-8 at some point.  I've then used mencoder and videomux and winff without success.  Apparently, the video format for the .mov file is tricky.  I get video that's 1:48 (1 minute, 48 seconds) long, not 2:00; all the video is there but it seems to run faster, and the audio, when it's there, does have 12 seconds less than it should.  I've tried adding the subtitles first, then convert from mov to flv or mpg (to later upload to youtube), or convert then add subtitles, again without success.  I get lots of "frame skipped" errors.  '''So if someone can create a non .mov version of this file that has sane video and audio content, I think that would help.  Or whatever.  Thanks!''' Translations

Translation needs a timed transcription, so that translated voice falls into place. Tasks are:

  1. Write transcription. Done. Thanks for sending the script, Isaiah!
  2. Time the transcription. Done. Tool: "divxland media subtitler 2.0.7 for windows", which is free as in money, and easy to use: add text, time done pressing button as needed. http://www.divxland.org/subtitler.php
  3. Translate into as many languages as we can. Spanish: done.
  4. For each language, either add the subtitles to the existing video in Spanish, or record an audio file with the apropriate timing.
  5. Link to each translated video.
