Basics

  • This page goes over how you go from "generic turbine" to each speciality, each with "optima" efficency

Turbojet

  • Optimise for thrust, mass, and size

Turbofan

  • Same as turbojet, but extra compression and/or air diversion

Turboprop and/or Turboshaft

  • This will be the main OSE investigation due to the lack of size and/or mass constraints
  • Will be used as a Turbogenerator and/or in the Universal Burn Unit
  • Optimize for power extracted
  • Either by:
    • Direct attach shaft
    • "Free Shaft" (Similar to an exhaust turbocharger)

Methods

Workflow

Phase 1

  • Build simple hobby/lab scale device

Phase 2

  • Tinker with and modify phase 1 for improvements + learning as you go along

Phase 3

  • Dedicated engineer, software, and perhaps AI Design of blade geometry etc
  • This is where the real "optimal efficiency" is obtained
