Uses

  • Electrodes for arc furnaces are made from graphite.
  • This includes an arc furnace for smelting aluminum (Hall-Heroult)
  • Readily producible from charcoal, sand, and electricity via the Acheson process - [1]

Making Graphite

  • Graphite is made from Silicon carbide [2]. Silicon carbine is made by electric arcing of sand and charcoal.
