Problem Statement

  • Gluing rubber, such as EPDM.
  • Contact cement works on EPDM - [1]. Customer says this is 'closest to ideal' for EPDM on metal [2]
  • DAP 234 is essentially toluene, hexane, acetone with some dissolved rubber.
  • Dissolved rubber is polychlorinated rubber, the thing of rubber paint [3]
  • What is solvent of rubber paint -
  • Dissolved rubber - LionGuard [4]

Types of Glues

  • Structural acrylic glues work - Permabond TA4605 and Permabond TA4610 structural acrylic adhesives - [5]

AKA Crazy Glue

  • Wikipedia - CA -
  • Does not work well because it will stick, but contraction will easily break the glue - [6]
  • Use rubbery solvent glues.

Sourcing

  • 5 gallons, $121 - 60 sf/gal - is this really CA glue? [7]. $71 shipping.
  • 5 gal, 60 CA Adhesive, $250 - [8]

EPDM Solvents

  • N-hexane, toluene. Benzene, pentane. Toluene is best [9]
  • Toluene - $20/gal - [10]

Notes

  • EPDM is not neoprene [11]
