D3D uses 12mm x 3mm neodymium N52 magnets to hold axes to the frame.

Cost

  • 28 cents Brooklyn seller - [1]
  • 40 cents - 1/2" - [2]
  • 10 cents - 10x2 N50 - [3]
  • 30c 1/2" [4]
  • 40 cents 12x3 n52 - [5]
  • 17 cents USA 12x3 n35 - [6]
  • 17 cents 12x3 from china n52 - [7]
  • 28 cents 12x3 @ 1000 from UK n52 - [8]. This appears to be the best option.
  • 7 cents 10x2 HK n52 (looks like 1/16" thickness) - [9]. While this looks cheaper, this is not because of the lower strength of 10x2.
  • 16 cents 12x3 n50 - [10]
  • 12 cents 12x3 n50 china - [11]
  • 14 cents 12x3 n50 china - [12]
  • 11 cents 12x3 China - [13]

Strength

  • 12x3mm appears to be 8 lb - [14]
  • 10x3mm is 5.5 lb - [15]
  • 20x10x2mm is 4.8 lb - [16]
  • 10x2mm n52 is 2.6 lb - [17]
  • 12x2mm n52 is 3.8 lb - [18] - note - this is probably 1/16", or 1/2 the pull force of the 1/8" version (3 mm)
  • 6x3mm n52 is 2.9 lb - [19]
  • 6x6mm n52 is 4.2 lb - [20]
  • 25x2mm n42 is 6.8 lb -[21]
  • 6x1.5mm n35 - 1 lb - [22]

Notes

  • 2 mm compared to 3 mm appears to be 1/2 as strong. 2 mm is really 1.6 mm, of 1/16", compared to 1/8", or 3 mm. That makes sense.
  • Thus, it's more favorable to go with 3mm thickness.

Tested

  • Ebay [23] - 25 for $11 - 48 cents.
