Fellows revenue accounting is divided by different sources:

  • Running workshops - typically OSE charges $300 above the bill of materials for a 1 day build, or $300-$1000 above the BOM for 2 day Training the Trainers (Extreme Learning) workshops. The revenue above the bill of materials and other event costs goes to the Fellows quota accounting.
  • Producing kits or parts - depends on product.
  • Other - honoraria for presentations, consulting, or other.

All costs are subtracted from the expenses of running workshops. The main cost there is the Bill of Materials cost plus any required tools. There may be costs associated with the venue, or other incidentals. The Fellow covers their travel costs, such as gas. Typically, workshops are in the local area, so airfare or hotels should not be a cost. If they are, they must be subtracted to get the net revenue.

A net of $3000 is sufficient to cover the stipend. A net of $6000 is sufficient to cover OSE operating costs. Any revenue above $6000 is a bonus, and is shared 50/50 between the Fellow and OSE.
