Intro

Community.jpg

The Open Source Ecology project is fueled by our community: countless contributors, True Fans, funders, and others - who are motivated by an ethical goal of the common good. Our goal is that anyone can join and help us develop: in areas spanning design, art, engineering, communications, video, writing, organizations, and enterprise - and on to hands-on builds and pilot projects. We are building on commonly-available tools and creating sophisticated processes to use these tools for integrated, interdisciplinary development. Our goal is to provide immersion experience to expose people to their deeper productive power - whether in our 3-day workshops, or in the summer of extreme design/builds. Our work is geared at students, professionals, retirees, people looking for a change in their life - and in particular - budding social entrepreneurs motivated by distributive enterprise goals. Our goal is to make our techniques accessible to anyone - for anyone to develop, organize, or generate enterprise from our work - to create a formidable public-interest economic development platform for the next economy. We are testing the limits of collaborative, open innovation fueled by open hardware technology - to accelerate innovation - to make a better world - and to leave nobody behind.

Develop + Organize + Support

'Call to action, contact info'

Development on the GVCS occurs both on site at Factor e Farm and remotely via Design Sprints, university collaborations, and other opportunities. We publish Requirements and Requests for Proposals - [Modular Tractor Arms Construction Set, Language-Agnostic Instructionals Construction Set, Model Animations Construction Set, Scale Model Instructional Video Construction Set, Scalable CNC Gear and Rack Drive Construction Set, Universal Arduino Controller Construction Set, Wireless Controller Construction Set, Piston Engine Construction Set, Hydraulic Wind Turbine Construction Set, ], and encourage anybody to apply either to work remotely or on-site. On site work includes prototyping, infrastructure buildout, Immersion Workshops. Our unique approach is creating not single machines, but instead - modular, scalable construction sets for building any machine.

Extreme Summer School - anyone is welcome to apply. This is a great opportunity for students to gain practical experience - with a project that is making a difference - or to build their resume for future success.

Spring Breaks - currently we have a March 9-14 Alternative Spring Break trip. Interested in changing the world rather than going to the beach? Join us - [1]. Organize

If you have organizational skill and you are interested in working more closely with the core OSE team - help us organize:

  • University Lectures - or other speaking engagemnents - where we spread our message. So far, we have found at least one and typically several strong stakeholders at all of the universities that we have visited - and we are pursuing Design Sprints, Summer Internships, and student projects with the new contacts.
  • University Chapters - We are currently working on the first OSE University chapters at UW Milwaukee and Purdue University. The requirements are hosting one design sprint per month. To organize an OSE Chapter, see the guidelines at the Chapters Page on the wiki, and then contact info at opensourceecology dot org to pursue the opportunity.
