The conceptual design of a pier is a shaft, with either 1, 2, or 3 helical flighting sections welded on. Soil weight bearing capacity is summed over the bottom areas of the flighting. A certain vertical and horizontal separation between flights on piles is required based on Open Source Helical Piers Design Guide
