Petroleum Coke

Basics

• A solid, mostly carbon, material resulting from the processing of Crude Oil
• Called "Coking" (delyaed coking?)
• Often called PetCoke
• NOT RENEWABLE

Health Hazards

• It is a major Pollutant due to [[Heavy Metal )? content, mainly vanadium
  • Granted this is due to the Oil/Tar Sands it is currently made from?
• It also was stored in open piles...near houses...for...increased profit
• This caused it to form Atmospheric Particulate Matter

Bio-Petcoke

• Would this be of any use?
• Coker Unit for technical aspects
• It seems that given the (near) lack of heavy metals in Bio-Crude there shouldn't be too much of an issue
  • Similar to Charcoal vs Coal
• ESPECIALLY if using Best Available Technology WITH a clean feedstock
