Basics

  • In a similar manner to Aero-Derivative Gas Turbines , an Automotive Engine repurposed for other uses
  • Typically:
    • In a Genset / RICE Based Power Plant
    • In other forms of Motor Vehicles such as in Small Vehicles/Racing Vehicles, Aircraft or Marine Vessels
      • The latter two may require more substantial modifications such as Redudnancy (In Spark Plugs and other hardware) or in Environmental Compliance/Saltwater/Corrosion-Proofing respectively

OSE Relevance

  • In terms of Appropriate Materials, choosing an engine that can be easily found in Junkyards/The Local Used Fleet allows for easy acquisition of hard to develop parts such as Engine Blocks and Cam Shafts / Poppet Valves etc
  • Also given many Small Engines such as those found on ICE driven Small Generators, Pressure Washers, and the like are often simpler/more primitive in design, one may able to get far more advanced technology (In Long Term Reliability, In Emissions Controls , in “Tunability” / Efficiency / Flex Fuel or Multi-Fuel Capability etc
