Talk:UHMWPE
MIGHT be able to be used as a Fluoropolymer Free PTFE substitute for Bearings/Bushings etc
Would probably still release Micro/Nanoplastics, BUT it wouldn’t produce any “nasties” if burned, and might have a SLIGHTLY BETTER chance at breaking down.
Still not ideal.
From an Appropriate Materials / Chemical Swadeshi perspective though, not having to add Fluorine into the web of inputs/outputs is nice.
Also need to see if it would be improved if pockets of a Lubricating Oil and/or Graphite were added
Need to check a table of Coefficient of Friction
All in all i was reading up on PEX / UHMWPE / XPE etc and landed on this page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPX_Ultra-high-molecular-weight_polyethylene
Neat stuff!

Would it be able to replace PTFE Tubes would be another MAJOR benefit. They are SOMEWHAT essential for much of FDM 3D Printing especially Bowden Tube and Reverse Bowden Tube systems/ Filament Dryers etc. This is ALSO an application that requires low friction, hence a PVC or LDPE/MAYBE even PEX tube would probably not work (Granted citation needed!)
