3D Printer Distributive Enterprise Revenue Model

From Open Source Ecology

OSE is developing Distributive Enterprise. See our Critical Path.

The enterprise around the 3D printer feeds into the OSE Incentive Challenge, and helps to push the Desktop Microfactory forward. The Desktop Microfactory leads to the full Open Source Microfactory that can be replicated inexpensively in many communities around the world.

  1. We have good initial evidence of optimized ergonomics of production leading to 12 quality controlled 3D printer kits built per day.
  2. We sell kits at $300 above the bill of materials cost, which is currently $550 or so. This $300 captures the value of the entrepreneur's skill set.
  3. We produce the quality controlled kits day1, day 2 we pack and ship them, day 3 we spend on marketing, and day 4 we provide customer support. Thus, for a set of 12 kits, we spend 4 full days on the full chain from production to fulfillment.
  4. Revenue above is $3600 for 4 days of work.
  5. Done 3 times per month, that is $10k revenue - about half of full time work.

Now we have not done this yet - and the details may change. This is what we think is currently possible and we are working on it now.

There is also no free lunch here. This is for ambitious entrepreneurs who are willing to invest the time in developing an integrated skill set to execute the above. The amount of time will vary based on the mindset and skillset of the entrepreneur. We think this is scalable and teachable, as the 3D printing market is growing rapidly. OSE will provide rapid training for this in the form of an online course.

If you'd like to get involved in developing the above, join the Dev Team, get your hands on the latest iteration of the OSE 3D Printer (D3D v19.06), and take on one of the tasks on the 3D printer critical path.
