Application of the Concepts "Penetration Testing" / Destructive Testing to Hardware Reliability

Basics

  • Penetration Testing is a method in software development, as well as Physical Site Security, where you have a professional try and gain access, and thus find any loopholes that a criminal/hostile entity would use to gain access
  • Destructive Testing in a hardware context typically means measuring the max stresses componets can handle, and thus isn't quite the right term
  • Essentially this methodology would consist of giving a device/system to a person, or group and asking them to make it jam, or stop functioning, or lock up, etc.
    • So not as much "breaking" as causing it to stop working
