Quote:Yann LeCun, an early A.I. pioneer who is Meta’s chief A.I. scientist, said in a post on LinkedIn that people who think the takeaway from DeepSeek’s work should be that China is beating the United States at A.I. development are misreading the situation. “The correct reading is: ‘Open source models are surpassing proprietary ones,’” he said.
Want to build a new civilization? One based on collaboration, democracy, and abundance? Open Source Ecology (OSE) invites you to join our movement. We're on a 20-year mission (ending in 2028) to finalize the Global Village Construction Set – 50 tools and machines for a modern standard of living, replicable inexpensively anywhere in the world.
This isn't just about tools; it's about shifting from a scarcity to an abundance mindset through rapid learning, collaborative design, and lifelong commitment to leveling the playing field. We're building open-source blueprints for everything from homes and tractors to spaceships, aiming for universal abundance. This starts with learning how to be an integrated human, which is how we approach our learning proram
This 4-year, work-study program (40% building, 60% learning) is like a blend of university, startup, and endless possibility. You'll learn 20 building trades in the time it usually takes to learn one or two, through hands-on experience and interdisciplinary design learning. We build Seed Eco-Homes, incorporating solar power and constantly innovating. You'll learn design principles, complex systems thinking, and develop your full human potential – mental, physical, and spiritual.
Join a cohort of 24 students and graduate by building a complete house in 5 days as part of this collaborative crew. Advance to the Construction Manager Track to lead crews in collaborative builds. We will teach you how to learn, how to design, and how to be a full human. We're building a campus for 240 students, preparing you for large-scale collaborative design - so that you can practice all these skills hands-on in applied projects while you learn-by-doing in a supportive environment.
During your study, we offer a work-study program so that we teach you how to achieve financial independence. Upon graduation, we offer competency-based pay, exceeding fresh Ivy League graduate salaries, based on your skills. We're unique in our commitment to open up civilization, working towards in-house production of machines, tools, and materials using compressed earth blocks, 3D printing, and locally sourced lumber. While open-sourcing all of our enterprise blueprints. Join the collaborative economy movement!
Ready to be a transformer and future steward? The first cohort starts June 1. Apply now!

Tired of college debt and soul-crushing jobs? Want to change the world and get paid for it? This is your chance. Open Source Ecology (OSE) is starting a school to reinvent civilization.
We're building a collaborative, transparent, open society – a level playing field for everyone. After nearly two decades of prototyping open collaboration, design, and building, this is our next big step.
Our school teaches you how to be human, how to learn, and how to design a new civilization – all while building. We start with Seed Eco-Homes to fund the program, learning design principles and treating civilization as a modular construction set. We tackle everything from homes and machines to energy, transportation, space, microchips, and even societal institutions.
First, we focus on you. We cultivate humanity – humility, character, possibility, abundance mindset, moral intelligence, soft skills, leadership, and more. Then, we teach you how to learn – rapid learning techniques, accurate mental models, and integrated systems thinking. Finally, you'll learn how to design – houses and the rest of the techosphere, exploring the architectures of civilization.
You'll build Seed Eco-Homes (2 days/week) and learn construction management. In 4 years, you can manage a 24-person building crew. Interested in a $95k starting salary as a construction manager or teacher by 24? This is your path to financial independence.
But it's just the beginning. You can then continue with OSE, starting a new design-build operation elsewhere – ethical enterprise to level the global playing field.

Treatment: Call out for the big picture no holds barred, invite long term commitment and lifelong learning, seek huge ambition in humility for service and stewardship to serve the world. Level the playing field and create abundance.
Script -Do you want to create a new civilization? One based on true collaboration, a democratic society, and a level playing field with transparency and abundance? With the world changing faster than ever before, we are up to the challenge.
Welcome to the world of open source ecology. In 2008, we came up with the concept of the Global Village Construction Set - a set of 50 tools and machines needed for a modern standard of living - a civilization in a box that can be replicated inexpensively anywhere in the world. We are now taking this to the finish line by 2028 - our stated 20 year timeline. We invite you to be a part of this process.
I finished my 20s with a ph.d. in plasma physics - and discovered - i was useless. I had no practical skills. I was certainly not going to work in any a soul crushing job. So i started a farm, in Missouri. Since then, We prototyped dozens of the global village construction set tools and machines, after almost 20 years of this civilization reboot experiment, we are starting a school. A college-grade program in civilization construction. We discovered that the scarcity mindset, not technology, is the limiting factor in civilization's progress.
An abundance mindset is not a hippie ideal. It is a rigorous discipline of rapid learning, collaborative design, and a lifelong commitment to level the playing field for everyone. This carries with it a deep purpose. Our goal is open source blueprints for civilization - everything from a home, a tractor, and a spaceship. The goal is abundance for everybody - the final transition of humanity from a scarcity mindset to a world of open collaboration.
It will not be easy. So we are calling out for you - at the point of high school or equivalent education - to join a community of transformers and future stewards. The stakes are high - with civilization on its path to the technological singularity - we envision a humanistic singularity - for civilization to prosper. That means, we finally learn to share, as a species.
We do this by a work-study program - a commitment of 4 years. The program involves 40% of the time working - building affordable, ecological housing - and 60% in learning how to learn, learning how to design, and learning how to be a full human. It is a mix of hands-on and design learning, an interdisciplinary approach where we practice all that we learn about. This is our route to rapid learning. This is like a mixture of collegeand a startup, though you'll be safe from a short startup runway because we have proven the economics of efficient house construction - as promised in our kickstarter for the Open Building Institute.
We build Seed Eco-Homes 2 days of the week - innovative and incremental housing with solar power as a standard option - with each build adding new features and releasing everything open source.
One day of the week - we learn design. How to design homes, and about architectures of all technology and institutions - as after all - we are exposing our students to understand as much of the building blocks of a sound civilization as possible. On Thursday - we learn how to learn. This means how to form accurate mental models and to problemsolve across all areas and disciplines of human endeavor. The goal is to understand basic, underlying patterns - through a complex systems appraoch - where everything is connected and problemsolving requires an integrated approach.
And finally - we learn how to be human. This means first, understanding human possibility and capacity across mental, physical, and spiritual fields. Then understanding multiple intelligences, building character, and cultivating a mindset of lifelong learning and stewardship in the world.
In short, we are like no other opportunity available anywhere else, but if I were to select like a mixture of a university, startup, and a monestary. We believe that if we train about a million people to the highest qualities of an integrated human, the world will be in good hands.
You will be engaging this journey as part of a cohort of 24 students, for an experience where we learn to collaborate in large, coordinated swarms. You will graduate when you can build a complete house from foundation to PV - as part of a team of 24 - in only 5 days. Then you have the option to pursue the Construction Manager Track - where your task will be to lead crews of your own in highly coordinated, collaborative builds. We are starting to build a campus for about 240 students - so that in 4 years, you can practice collaborate design on a larger scale - as we learn to solve problems faster than they are created. With our collaborative, rapid learning techniques - our promise is an ability to learn 20 building trades in the time it would usually take to learn 1 or 2 - if you put in the work.
This is part of a larger program. In 4 years, you will become a master builder, or construction manager if you take the leadership track - trained also in humanistic philosophy and design. We intend to continue our training program, so that you can build a new campus - a new microcivilization that influences its surrounding countryside - in another location. Our goal is thousands of such campuses worldwide, nominally with 240 students in each.
You have nothing to lose if you have your full commitment to give. At the very least, we can hire you, competency-based - where you basically set your own pay by the skills that you possess. We'll pay integrated builders at a higher rate than a fresh ivy league grad - based on the extreme skill set that you will gain - collaboratively and with rapid learning.
We are unique in the fundamental approach to open civilization. While we currently use off-the-shelf tools and materials, you will participate with us in building capacity to design produce machines, tools, and materials in house. As soon as you gain the necessary design-build skills. Our near term goals involve compressed earth block, 3D printed materials, and lumber which we produce from abundant local and recycled sources. With open collaboration, the movement to create the next, collaborative economy, on a level playing field - can swell. So that we address the survival and financial independence aspect that is missing sorely in today' busy-bee world.
Join us. First cohort starts June 1. Submit the initial application.
