This builds on Circular Knittic - http://varvarag.info/circular-knitic/, an open source project. Knittic is the original open source project. Another project, OpenKnit appears to have stalled. Who are all the players?

(Knittic and Circular Knittic) It's kind of two different histories. The circular machine was developed by a modern artist duo and is all open source. But they do other art stuff mostly now. Mar is one of them. The linear machine was developed by a dude that like you said open sourced the old non-working version and continued on to develop a new closed source version.
