Design Rationale

General

  • Rotor is easily accessible square tube, has better material use to stiffness ratio than solid shaft. Will be larger than solid shaft, but this is good for combining with plastic via 'spline' coupling strategy.
  • Tubes are welded to provide solid structure, while platic on outside provides proper geometry for belt

CAD

  1. First step was to draw the inner tube, 3/16" wall stock, full geometry
  2. This gets complicated to manage, so further geometries were just the outer profile
  3. Added 1.5" OD tubes later
  4. Then traced just the outer contour. Made outer corner radius small, so actual tubes can fit easily inside.
