Modular COB LED Array

From Open Source Ecology
Jump to: navigation, search

Basics

  • A Modular LED Unit Utilising COB LEDs and some sort of cooling method (most likely water cooling, but air may be possible as well
  • Can be paired with various Lens Modules for various effects\
  • Main use case is for high level lights such as stagelights, light poles/ Light Carts, and stadium lights
  • High Speed Photography also requires very bright lighting so this may be of use for that
  • This will also be more efficient than alternatives such as HID lights and other Gas Discharge Lamps (Outside of Sulfur Lamps Perhaps (These are underdeveloped so their efficiency peak MAY be much higher than the current 15% efficiency (Which is slightly lower than LED's 20-25% see Luminous Efficacy

Industry Standards

  • Truck Light Bars
  • Led Light Carts, and Stage Lights
  • Led Stadium Lights
  • Although the modular approach is quite unique

Minimum Viable Product

  • Square Shape for ease of lens use etc
  • modules of 1, 5, and 25 cells depending on scale needed
  • Custom Milled/Etched PCB for soldering chips to, and water cooling block
  • Connects to the Modular LED Light Core Module for power, control, and cooling
  • Balanced Power Supply to the chips (Most likely via parallel if possible)

Chips

Water Block

  • Either an off the shelf Water Block (Most likely from a PC CPU/Graphics Card Part) or a custom machined part preferabbly copper or stainless steel
  • Use either barb connectors or some sort of quick disconect fitting that lead to the Modular LED Light Core Module

PCB

  • Either Milled or Etched
  • The Chips are Soldered Directly to this (Need to check if this will mess with the thermal preformamce
  • Also contains the power in port that connects to the Modular LED Light Core Module
