Basics

Existing Open Source Designs

Industry Standards

Minimum Viable Product

  • Use a standard Universal Power Supply
  • Use a Universal Watercooler
  • Have a panel with a standard power in, out + a water in and water out, all in one place
  • Have a standard model (dials etc) and a model with things like DMX and ArtNet for stagelighting etc
  • Should be somewhat ruggedized

Basic Design

Case

  • A custom 3d Printed Box (Perhaps with gaskets and o rings etc)

Port Panel

  • Water in (barb or quick disconnect)
  • Water out (barb or quick disconnect)
  • Power in (AC (single or 3 phase? both?) DC? (Open Source DC Socket? , barrel jack?)
  • Power out (DC and coded for the LED (PWM etc) )
  • Temp Probe Inputs (if used) (perhaps merge with power port into ANOTHER port standard?)

IO Panel

Basic Model

  • Device On/Off Switch
  • Blackout (Light only) Switch/Button
  • Dimmer Dial/Slider
  • Led Indicator? (Not too needed, but may help for dimming values, temperature of cooling fluid and/or led chip(s) and other warnings etc) could be a 3dp like lcd display or a calculator like 7 segemnt and a few leds
  • Perhaps only needs an arduino etc

High End

  • Device On/Off Switch
  • Blackout (Light only) Switch/Button
  • LCD with various status data for troubleshooting
  • DMX in (RJ45 and XLR port options, or just use an adapter and have only 1 port type?)
  • DMX out (RJ45 and XLR port options, or just use an adapter and have only 1 port type?)
  • MIDI in
  • MIDI out
  • Perhaps direct bluetooth or wifi (thrown in if using a raspberry pi because why not if it's there even though it won't be used most likely) control and/or status data
  • Usb data + firmware port (Also usb tethering perhaps?)
  • Indicator leds for quick glance status (one for on/off, one for blackout, and one for each connection method) ?

Power Supply

  • Universal Power Supply
  • Look into if this can support the large power draw/voltage etc and if an adapter board would be needed
  • Must be controllable via the control module

Water Cooler

Misc

  • Optional Wheels
  • Optional Stand
  • Optional Mod into a Light Cart (see Open Source Light Cart )
  • Perhps either a larger single module, or an array rack for larger setups?
