Retention and Defection
Important topic for solution of the OSE problem statement, creating open source blueprints for civilization. Retention is low at Google, something measured on the scale of months. We need 10-100x this, or decades, for as many people as possible to attain DMS of proprietary economies to collaborative.
Retention defined as? Working on open source blueprints for civilization. That means the discipline of coordinated hardware-producing. This is (as in Maslow's Pyramid bottom layers) because in the order of things, we have not achieved the lower rung for all of civilization. It is the assumption that providing for everyone is a good idea, it is a basic holy principle.
Open source blueprints include products, product ecosystems, institutions, and organizations.
The etymology of holy is whole. This explains the moral intelligence drive, nonreligious, that underlies the integrated education, integrated design, and integrated enterprise - affirming that Specialization is for Insects. It is fascinating that integration is indeed a holy endeavor.
Open source blueprints for civilization means leveling the playing field, for distribution of power. This means equal opportunity. This could include great disparity of ambition or wealth, but not as big as under a condition where the playing field is even. Because more people are encouraged to participate, and the mood all together is more positive under a condition of reduced waste and oppression, where one pays only for value. Meaning that self-determination is accessible to all.
Which creates a world where needs of survival (job insecurity), or mental hijacking into society-scale mental pathology (bad ideas, dictators, demagogues), are no longer the drivers of civilization. People are no longer susceptible to be manipulated because they need to put bread on their table, nor manipulated because they don't have the mental tools to form accurate mental models.
The key to creating open source blueprints for civilization is a mindset of abundance. Abundance is not a physical condition. It is a mindset. Because people who have everything can be living a life of scarcity. And people who have limited worldly possessions can be living in abundance. And, as long as there is one greedy person, there is not enough for everybody. But the physical reality is that 10000x more power comes from the sun than the entire earth uses today. That means that every day, about 30 years of energy come to the earth from the sun. This means that the Total Fossil Fuel Reserves of the Earth are a small fraction of energy available on earth, about one trillionth, and the Sun still has 5 billion years left. It requires basic scientific literacy to understand and appreciate this, and that few people appreciate this is evident in humanity's ongoing resource conflicts.
Defection is an apt word for leaving, as in game theory - because defection may be said to not be rational from a holistic perspective.
What natural and designed incentives can be created? It seems that an incentive infrastructure is needed. All the elements must be considered and designed intentionally. And first, do we want people to leave? They can 'leave' and continue creating open source blueprints for civilization. Since the individuals have learned techniques for scalable, open collaboration, which match the distribution of power through society - ie, empowerment, prosperity, freedom, self-determination to everyone - that means that they are folling the purpose defined by OSE principles - the purpose of mutually assured abundance. We return to abundance as the key value. But it is integrated abundance, holy abundance - as opposed to the AI apocalypse, which many hail as the saviour instead of responsibility.
Responsibility means attending to cause and effect relationships, based on sound mental models of reality. A natural product of responsibility is abundance - because abundance can be claimed as an accurate mental model of reality up to about 1000x more prosperity than we have today - see 1000 Factor.
It seems that these are natural or creatable incentives:
- Value generation - participants receive value in the form of education, friendships,
- Network - access to resources, such as physical plant and expertise from others.
To implement this - best would be to require a strong commitment to:
- Open source part libraries - means that you can get access to new design
- Open source materials - gain access to materials and materials production infrastructure.
- Open source microfactory - access to state of art production.
- Open source enterprise - you gain access to ongoing enterprise execution based on physical plant and designs
- Hydrogen infrastructure provides the energy infrastructure.
The above thus provides an incentive in the form of capable infrastructures for enterprise, learning, living.
Therefore, the Campus extends its requirement to open sector infrastructure:
- RLF provides rapid teaching of modules, machines, tools.
- Off hours in RLF is game (such as weekends when school is not in session)
- RLF thus clearly documents the Visual Workshop environment where multiple stakeholders (students, enterprise, public events, presentations, special swarming) can engage.
- RLF must this introduce the Quick Exchange Toolheads at scale of heavy implements and tools, modular trailers (mobile infastructure), and on-demand buildable infrastructure.
- Apprenticeship provides the skills.
- Lifelong learning comes from advancement track (factory floor-> design -> collaborative enterprise open franchise -> Global Steward campus operator)
- Benefits include retirement plan (20 years of open source contribution, or Global Steward status) where you have lifelong access to land, health facilities, dining facilities, etc). Extreme productivity ($2000/day) (3% of full time schedule) guarantees your place in the infrastructure, easily.
