Talk:Open Source Replicas
Not to relevant, but i love old mechanism based, pre-computer/complex+cheap computer, solutions to various problems. Given the production capability of 3D Printers, and other CNC machines, as well as custom pcbs these are easy to replicate now. Main limit is just digging up old information, and finding designs, and/or reverse engineering to make CAD
Also since most of these companies are dead, and/or the products are irrelevant, there is llittle to no concern over legal issues etc
Also enthusiasts mayy enjoy "new" versions of the same thing
Typewriters, and mechanical keyboards for example:
- Some models of Typewriters have begun manufacturing by different companies in small batches for hobbiests/enthusiasts
- The "Buckle Spring" mechanical keyboard is starting production under a new manufacturer as well
- Also there is cad to print or CNC mill a Curta Mechanical Calculator
In the future parts for vintage cars etc could be sketched up so they could be cnc machines or lost pla/3d printed wax cast, preventing the need for complex searches and/or expensive industrial runs
This will be a backburner pet project of mine for now, but between hobby/enthusiast machine sales, and "vintage car repair shops" etc this could fork out into it's own thing one day.
Just thought i'd make it here to keep the idea out in the open, and keep my documentation up for others to use.
Saw an old early days of cnc- Automatic Technical Lettering machine for drafting and am plotting how to make one.
ANOTHER one of my many projects...
