Talk:PVC Conduit

This stuff is odd. We only worked with it for a few days, rather than the few weeks we spent on EMT Conduit , but it was interesting.

You can use fittings which is pretty straightforward. I need to read up if the NEC had anything on the maximum amount of fittings before a Pull Box or whatever, but otherwise this works.

You also can do basic bends via a Hot Air Gun or PVC Conduit Heater (I don't know if this is the right word, but it is essentially spaced out rollers, a heating element, and a box around all that. You place the pvc conduit on the rollers, close the box, turn on the heater, and twist the stick of conduit so it evenly begins to melt. There is a bit of artistry in it (Almost akin to Glassblowing ), especially to prevent it from kinking, but it can be done.

I have some pictures, as well as dimensions+detailed pictures (and maybe one of those iphone scans, although i am uncertain of the utility of that scanner yet) of the heater box. (It sold for some extreme price, for what is essentially a (toaster-) oven heater coil, switch, bearings, and sheet metal)

I am unsure on how it is rated impact wise (ie where one would use Rigid Conduit ), but otherwise it has corrosion resistance and so on. (Although long term life is something i'm uncertain on. Noticing Rust/Corrosion is easier than spotting "dry rot" / microcracks on PVC Pipe! Also Galvanic Protection of Conduit is something i'd like to look into.

Finally from a more conceptual perspective, unlike metal conduit, plastic conduit such as PVC could be made from Hydrocarbons (From Algae HTL Biocrude , Syngas , or P2X Based Processes) and Chemicals from Brine thus being "universal" / not limited materials wise. Granted you have energy use, and the issues of Scale etc, but i find that to be an interesting aspect.

Either way i just saw this in the Recent Wiki Changes and thought i'd add my (non-expert) "two cents"
