Notes from Meetings & Actions

Videocon, May 23, 2013

Met with Ian, Tom, James, Gary & Rob re: The Spark (roll these notes into the Spark Planning Page)

  1. ACTION: Ian needs to know what we can do to help with the microfundraising for the film (write about it in a blog, newsletter, etc?)
  2. ACTION: Need to connect Ian and his team with some hydraulic experts
  3. Tom is looking at designing a key switch to be able to shut the motor off in the cab/seat
  4. Evaluating integration issues with the new power cube--will require 3/4" hydraulic hoses with 1" return lines
  5. Evaluating using multiple (up to 3) pumps--evaluating cost and integration issues
  6. ACTION: Does OSE have CAD files of the Lifetrac?
  7. ACTION: Gary will upload/link current progress on the tractor tonight in Gary Log
  8. ACTION: Does OSE have operational test plans of the previous Lifetrac or any other product?
  9. ACTION: What can we do to get experts in the tractor/ag manufacturing community
  10. ACTION: Are there width constraints to the back of the tractor where power cube sits? New cube is designed to 35"
  11. ACTION: Get with Drew (Ian's producer) re: schedule development

Email from Audrey to Drew, May 23, 2013

Hi Drew, Its great to meet you as well. I just spoke to Marcin, he said the only manual/documentation they have is what we have provided in the Civilization Starter Kit. Beyond that, we plan to use Dozuki utilizing the OManual format for our 6 in 60 campaign, and we are making this the OSE standard for future products. I'm told that documentation was an area, in the past, was inconsistent, and this is something are correcting as we move forward.

I've cc'd Rob, OSE's Documentation Manager, who can help you more with integrating where we are taking documentation.

Rob, please feel free to jump in on this conversation, and add to anything I've missed.

Email from Ian, May 21, 2013 to OSE Staff

We will physically prep at FeF on July 8 - 10 and build July 12, 13. The following week we will truck the tractor down to New Orleans after preliminary testing at FeF.

My team will be responsible for:

  1. Redesign of the LifeTrac with collaboration from OSE veterans and OSE engineers. Right now we are upgrading with a larger ~50hp VW engine in the powercube, resized hydraulic lines, new metal skid loader tracks, improved safety features, and improved ergonomic controls.
  2. CAD (sketchup preferred (so people can collaborate freely) and CAM (dxf). To make welding foolproof, put in notches in wheel units and other places so parts cannot be assembled for welding in a wrong way even if a person tried. Submitted to OSE by July 1 for verification (via model 3D printing or laser cutting).
  • I am still unclear on what designs i need to make here. Full 3D design of the LifeTrac? What files will the CNC torch use?
  1. Bill of Materials
  2. We are also going to try to make IKEA style fabrication diagrams (see sample). Deliver to OSE Product Lead by no later than July
  3. Purchase of all materials, machine the wheel couplers. I organize their delivery to Factor e Farm by no later that 2 days prior
  4. Design, CAD, CAM, and IKEA to be posted on OSE wiki at a location specified by OSE.
  5. Purchase of all materials, machine the wheel couplers. We organize their delivery to Factor e Farm by no later that 2 days prior to production run. This includes delivery by Sweiger Shop to Factor e Farm (about $50-100)
  6. Videotape torch cutting on July 8-10 - it should be no more than one day of cutting, and if all goes well - more like 4 hours
  7. Video from my camera related to instructional materials (CNC cutting, assembly) will be provided immediately to OSE for open source use. This instructional material will remain under ownership of Cropaganda Films LLC and will be licensed CC forever. All story related material filmed by my crew (footage of Nat Turner and his team) will be kept proprietary until the release of The Spark.
  8. We will bring Nat and OSBG leadership to participate in build - 4 people from the New Orleans crew.
  9. We will follow modularity for wheel units. Redesign arms to 4x4s for siimplicity if possible. Design cutting for 5'x10' torch table.

OSE agrees to:

  1. Set up the space for the 12-13 production run and OSE Product Lead runs the build. Primary tasks will be welding and assembly according to Ikea Style Fab Diagrams.
  2. Prepare workshop and lay out all materials on July 11.
  3. Prepare welders, workflow, space by July 10
  4. Cut the steel with CNC torch table July 8-10. We hope it will be on July 10, but if we feel that we may need more time, we will begin July 8.
  5. Model a partial-scale version of CAM cuts the CNC cuts via 3D printer or laser cutter.
  6. Bring 8 people to the event
  7. Participate in weekly meetings on LifeTrac design updates.
  8. Assist in scheduling.
  9. Approve the final bill of materials and advise on sourcing.
