Just spoke to Jenn Gustetic of NASA and found out about Topcoder - basically the elite Systems Engineering Breakdown Diagram platform equivalent - but for software. They break up a problem into modules and get it developed cheaper than hiring a dedicated developer. We are finding out how to do this for hardware, with volunteer contributors. These volunteers are motivated by the social mission. As of 2019, we found that the social vision does not compete will with people making a living, so we are shifting to an incentive challenge format to generate widescale collaboration. We plan on using theHeroX platform.
Once developed, we will be able to have others use our platform for this as a potential revenue model for OSE. This would allow for exchange of value within a context of the open source economy. Our value proposition is accelerated development + the requirement that all results are open. This is one way to fund the transition to the open source economy. The promise of economic freedom must be inherent in the OSE value proposition.
