Ultrasonic Cleaning

Basics

  • A form of Solution Soaking Cleaning that adds an Ultrasonic Transducer for agitation and more importantly Cavitation based mechanical disruption/cleaning
    • Due to this it excels at reaching hard to reach spots/clearing clogged needles or mesh, and also can speed up required soak time

Ultrasonic Cleaners

  • These can range from small units meant for dental medical devices, to multi-tank, multi-transducer heated monstrocities for industrial degreasing etc

Ultrasonic Cleaner Solutions

  • While pure water can be used,
    • Soaps will act as a Wetting Agent aiding in cleaning
    • Acidic Solutions can help Loosen/Remove Rust (Think Evaporust etc)
      • This does also run the risk of removing protective oxide layers such as Anodization and such, thus care should be taken
    • Basic (Caustic) Solutions can help with Heavy Degreasing
      • These can be hazardous if spilled on skin, and can likewise corrode some metals etc
    • More “Intense” Solvents such as Kerosene can be used (Akin to old Dry Cleaning ), although this raises fire/explosion risks etc
    • Enzymatic Cleaners can aid in Biofouling

To Do

  • Any benefit to Hydrogen Peroxide (and the solid precursor behind oxi-clean?)
    • Can the heated ones get hot enough to trigger the conversion of solid to hydrogen peroxide is the question too
  • Can disinfectants be used?
