August 16, 2014
Eric from Dancing Rabbit leaves. Help Devin and Mathias put LT1 back together and back out in the rain.
August 14, 2014
Use the bridgeport to make a new keyed shaft for LifeTrac 4. Last big group meeting after almost two weeks. Several people are able to speak their heart. I keep my head down, hoping to get more one-on-one time after most of the interns leave for the summer. Marcin spends most of the meeting looking as his phone as others talk, presumably taking notes, but seemingly not listening very well.
August 13, 2014
Workshop participants leave. Alex arrives to KC, with Danny to busy to speep up his interview process. Drive to Curtis's house for a final party and farewell to Stewart, Erin, and Sam. Drive back late navigation for Claire.
August 12, 2014
Wake early to the full moon and fetching a blanket. New office already panning out as Rees now has a command center that he can drop off the video footage, and the visiting programmer, Mark, from Nashville is able to find me and have a long discussion and collaborate CAD design and assembly. Relieve Rees at mortar creation to have Marcin take over in a rush and wonder if it is possible to teach Marcin how to be a teacher under pressure.
Jim tells me that the diesel powercube has the go-ahead.
August 11, 2014
Clean up for breakfast. Meeting under dome where bricklaying teams are chosen. Working with Eric on graph database collaborative machine design brainstorming. Much dissatisfaction in the ranks, several engineers about to mutiny on the house project so that the can accomplish something using their skills before they have to leave. Decide to unilaterally claim the back storage room as a work space for the engineers. Bust it out relaxed, fully prepared to take all backflack. Danny very upset at moving his things and that I did not hold a group meeting in order to bring in the community for such a decision. Not convinced I made the wrong decision in-light of the time pressures and the sheer dissatisfaction of many of the interns at the working environment. Meet Marcin's wife, for the first time after being here almost three weeks, just minutes after moving and packing all her stuff.
August 10, 2014
Help on house build. Blow breaker on first cut of a brick.
Devin almost seriously inured as the chain coupler on one of the powercubes explodes. Jim insists on a protective aluminum plate just minutes before it explodes. Much heart work as an angel saved the entire workshop and probably the OSE project as a whole. Interesting twist in that Devin refused, on very sound principles, not to sign the broad sweeping liability waiver passed around a few days before. Determined to lock this place down as a professional operation and not the dangerous, manic energy filled, cluttered and very inefficient operation that as I've seen it as so far.
August 9, 2014
Wake to Rees flying the drone ouside my door. Burned out from cleaning for days, decide to not clean today and see who steps up. Dose Curtis again and see immediate positive effects on mental recovery from alchohol. Observer Marcin putting pedal to the metal on pushing the workshop into speed and building at the expense of quality and education. Observer Marcin digging into A-horizon soil and creating unstabalized bricks. Ask Eric why to a "I don't care" response. Talk with Eric later that night and realize the complete dissatisfaction at how the engineers talents have not been properly utilized in their time here.
August 8, 2014
Wake early to clean the living room and help Claire set up for the first breakfast. Seemed odd that a single person was tasked with it and happy that the crew stepped up and got it presented. More cleaning like crazy to make a presentable place for the workshop participants. Prepare and dose Curtis with a paracetam/choline stack to get his brain back on track after late night drinking. Slaughter and butcher two lambs with Steven over at Willie's. Many of the workshop participants are repulsed that we are serving Wal-Mart produce and meat. Trying to bring food back that I and they can appreciate and eat with a clear heart. Another late night of many participants, including Curtis, drinking to excess.
August 7, 2014
Domes being constructed. Cleaning like crazy. Helping Aiden fix the tractor. People arrive. Night presentation by Marcin. Many interns upset at the seeming duplicitous nature of the presentation. Many cool new people arrive that are full up on skills we need for this workshop and other projects. Dissapointed at Curtis being up till 2am drinking excessively the night before the workshop he is tasked to lead.
August 6, 2014
Meeting where we decide not to build the entire house, but rather make the workshop a positive education experience for the workshop participants. Also, Curtis attempts to limit Marcin's role as an observer and meta-level player, and not a direct in-line decision maker.
August 5, 2014
Moral is very low in the interns. Ben from Cincinatti, a cob builder, arrives.
August 4, 2014
