Basics

  • An electronic connection standard, in similar widespread use to USB , 12v Barrel Jacks , and MIDI
  • Is often lockable, and enviroment hardened
  • Available in:
    • Two-Pin
    • Three-Pin (Most common)
    • Four-Pin
    • Six, and Seven Pin are less common, but DO exist if need be
  • "Bundled" cables are available for large amounts of cables ( Cable Managment is the only advantage
    • With these, you use either a "frayed/split off" end, or some short cables to connect the bundle to your devices, and use the solid bundle as the long distance element
      • These (outside of power applications) are largely replaced by ArtNet and similar protocols (These use standard lan so it can be as simple as into the box, then a single ethernet, or even a wifi connection
