Basics
- Difficult to do from a methane upgrading route, but this paper shows it is possible
- The paper used a Chromium-Zinc Catalyst on a β-Zeolite Catalyst, which is luckily not too rare (ie no rare earth metals etc)

- While NOT the same, the similar storage conditions have lead some propane groups to propose blending DME into the propane as a means to reduce the Carbon Intensity of the fuel

- An Article by “FGE Nextant” Titled “The problem with on-purpose bio-propane“
- While largely critical, it did show a good summary of the current state of the art/economics of that
- Also mentioned the Low Carbon Fuel Standard or LCFS / Carbon Pricing and what impact that may have
- TLDR: Propane is largely popular due to it being a cheap byproduct
- Compared to High Value and/or High Volume options like SAF etc, propane is low priority and low profitability (without heavy carbon taxing)
- They did mention Oberon Fuels / rDME or DME blending in Propane, DME-Propane Fuel Blends , which was neat!
