Seed Eco-Home Remote Enterprise Option
Future Builders Academy - Remote Enterprise Option
Do you want to learn how to build the Seed Eco-Home enterprise - building homes at scale - but cannot participate on site? Or you are already degreed, a designer, architect, builder, or engineer - and don't see yourself spending another 4 years in school?
We have created the Seed Eco-Home Remote Enterprise Option exactly for this purpose.
In the Remote Enterprise Option, you can learn to build the Seed Eco-Home hands-on, but without participating full time on site at the Future Builders Academy. The Future Builders Academy is a full-time, immersion experience. The Remote Enterprise Option is an opportunity to learn only the Seed Eco-Home build and enterprise - remotely but with on-site participation in builder crash courses. Curriculum includes the technical design rationale, build technique, ergonomics, and ergonomics. We leave out the other Future Builders Academy core curriculum, such as learning how to learn, learning how to solve problems, etc. These are separate tracks from the Remote Enterprise Option.
This is a great opportunity for you to learn about buidling the Seed Eco-Home in the most rapid fashion, by participating in at least 3 Builder Crash Courses over 12 months from the start of your Remote Enterprise Option. You are welcome to participate in as many of the Builder Crash Courses as we run during a 12 month period. We plan on running between 3 and 5 Builder Crash Courses. If we run other build events for the Seed Eco-Home, you are welcome to participate in any of them.
Curriculum and Publishing
In addition to the Builder Crash Course sessions, you participate in class time in which we delve into the details of all aspects of the Seed Eco-Home produced to date. We have about 1000 pages of detailed Build Documents for the product release build of the Seed Eco-Home 4 (such as Seed Eco-Home 4 Build Instructions) along with thousands of pictures detailing the practice of the build.
Curriculum
OSE will present the design, build, and sourcing detail of every single component of the house over approximately 120 hours of class instruction. This is in the form of online webinars where we use collaboratively editable docs to detail all of the build and answer student questions. This will occur if the form of approximately 4 hours of lecture per week over a period of 8 months, starting Feb 1, 2026, or earlier if there is a minimum of 6 people signed up for the program. Homework will include performing calculations, documenting design details, and producing instructionals to facilitate the build process for future generations.
Sessions will include topics such as:
- Deep understanding of the Seed Eco-Home modular build system
- Detail work examining designs and build procedures in FreeCAD, the premier open source 3D design software
- Detailing of build technique and prodedure for each architectural and utility system detail
- Specifying bills of materials, material budgets, admissible parts lists. Performing detailed cost estimation using tools such as spreadsheets and Visual Bills of Materials
- Designing 3D printable components for 3D printing to lower the cost of house materials
- Going over design rationale, build principles and philosophies, according to OSE Specifications
- Delving into design modification, contributing to OSE Design Guides which enable novices to engage in structurally and functionally sound design of housing and its optimization.
- Engineering analysis of all design, starting from first principles, using online calculators and software, and guiding ChatGPT to produce engineering design such as Truss Design Calculations
- Analysis of build procedures, production ergonomics, workflows, swarming, and economics of the build.
Open Source Policy
Participants in the Remote Enterprise Option are required to contribute to OSE design and documentation refinement. In addition to the 3 hours of class time, participants have a requirement of 6 hours homework/practice. This involves producing various documentation improvements, original designs, and other collaborative projects - on the wiki. This includes contributing any improvements related to or based on our work back to the OSE wiki, so that everyone else can benefit - under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 International license and under any other permissive open hardware license. See Licensing.
For example, if we are learning about plan submission to the building department, collaborators would be producing such supporting documents, collaboratively, as part of the the learning process.
All class sessions will be recorded, including any student discussion during class. Class sessions will be published online after the live online event for anyone to learn from as part of our open content. This is consistent with our goals of Distributed Market Substitution and Zero Marginal Cost Society.
Cost and Goals
The cost of the Remote Enterprise Option is $7350 in 2025. It is intended for those individuals who want to learn all the know-how of Seed Eco-Home builds - while gaining hands-on practice during Builder Crash Courses spanning a time frame of 12 months from signup.
Other Workshops
Extreme Builds other than the Builder Crash Course are not included in the cost. We can offer discounts to these. Other Extreme Builds may run from a day to a week or more. For example, we are building the open source skid steer Dec 15-22, 2025. The 3D printer, CNC torch table, and CEB press builds are also forthcoming in 2026. The 3D printer is a powerful tool that can be used to print materials for construction, and the CNC Torch table is used to build heavy machines used in construction, such as the skid steer and CEB press.
