Basics
- A term for the percentage (typically by mass) of material left over after all volatile and combustible matter is driven off from a material
- In the lab this is typically done with a Laboratory Kiln (Aka Muffle Furnace / Electric Muffle Furnace / Electric Kiln etc) and a specialized retort or other ceramic container
- Practically this is done with any sort of burner / Furnace / Gas Turbine or Internal Combustion Engine etc
- This is typically for determining what systems can use a fuel, or calculating Ash Handling Systems
