Activated charcoal is used in water purification to extract unwanted chemicals (etc) from impure sources (well, stream, pond, etc.). Wikipedia has a nice article on it. [1] Perhaps we could produce activated charcoal as a bi-product of Biochar. The activation process increases the porosity of the carbon.
