*Researched boiler systems (watertube, monotube, firetube, etc)--on-going
*COTS engines found to date do not meet specs (size/hp requirements) and seem to be costly, though design from http://www.mikebrownsolutions.com/techinfo.htm is intriguing (20 hp engine/150 lbs)
*Notes about safety--need to ensure sufficient safety warnings and instructions are included in manuals/drawings/maintenance plans--significant risk for safety incident (to include notes wrt substitutions of lower performing boiler safety valves, etc)
*Created QRL for supply/SMEs/resources
*Project plan--top level summary/intent/etc and outline
*Followed up on Pure Energy Systems--Massachusetts-based firm does not seem to exist. However, there is a Pure Energy Systems wiki that contains a lot of great information about renewable/sustainable energy: http://peswiki.com/index.php/Main_Page

Modernized Steam Engine Project Plan

Notes from 15 Mar 2013

  • Researched boiler systems (watertube, monotube, firetube, etc)--on-going
  • COTS engines found to date do not meet specs (size/hp requirements) and seem to be costly, though design from http://www.mikebrownsolutions.com/techinfo.htm is intriguing (20 hp engine/150 lbs)
  • Notes about safety--need to ensure sufficient safety warnings and instructions are included in manuals/drawings/maintenance plans--significant risk for safety incident (to include notes wrt substitutions of lower performing boiler safety valves, etc)
  • Created QRL for supply/SMEs/resources
  • Project plan--top level summary/intent/etc and outline
  • Followed up on Pure Energy Systems--Massachusetts-based firm does not seem to exist. However, there is a Pure Energy Systems wiki that contains a lot of great information about renewable/sustainable energy: http://peswiki.com/index.php/Main_Page

Notes from 13-14 Mar 2013

  • Performed research on history of product from initial innovation to modern use
  • Began technical analysis requirements: COTS availability analysis, independent innovation, & alternatives
  • Reviewed product integration requirements--began drafting tech performance requirements/specs
    • Noted comments in blogs wrt regulation requirements in some states in the US
  • Collecting potential SMEs (orgs & individuals) list and contact information for possible recruitment
  • Drafted outline for project plan:
  1. Product Description, Operational Concept, and Operational Requirements
  2. Product Cost Requirements
  3. Program Schedule
  4. Life Cycle Sustainment Requirements - maintainability, safety, human performance/human engineering, testability
  5. Manpower - System Development/Build Requirements, System Operator Requirements, System Maintenance Requirements
  6. Data Management - Product Interfaces (ICDs)
  7. Production Strategy
  8. Support Equipment - BOM, Supply

- Brainstorming, brainstorming, brainstorming

Note on Pure Energy Systems-- Mass.-based company, will research further.
