OSE Collaboration Ecology
Intro
The goal is to develop OSE to the point of Linux-scale development - where thousands of people are contributing to the kernel for a new civilization. Indeed, our level of cooperation must exceed that of Linux, as a civilization is more complicated that a computer kernel.
We make the road by walking at OSE, and currently we use a combination of elements to move development forward. Each is in development:
- OSE Developers
- OSE STEAM Camps - creating a collaborative design-literate public
- OSE Clubs - transforming schools and other organizations to collaborative design
- Open Source Everything Store
- Rapid prototyping via Open Source Microfactory machines, especially 3D printers
- FreeCAD and Part Libraries
More of the elements and principles that we use are listed at OSE Collaboration Protocol
The bottom line is this: How do we design an integrated development process for working effectively as a team, where one part feeds into another, and nobody is left out? And: how does everybody keep clear of our goal: a world of collaborative design for a transparent and inclusive economy of abundance
Short Narrative
The bottom line question implies a few things:
- We work on real results. This can be summarized as: economically significant products to create the open source economy
- We link the virtual and physical via rapid prototyping. 3D printers and the open source microfactory are key to this. For the best results, each Developer should have access to hardware prototyping, since we work in the world of open hardware.
- We create livelihoods. A transition to the open source economy implies that people begin to do open source collaboration for a living.
- We strive for freedom. We believe that freedom, as embodied in free-libre-open source - means freedom of finance, time, and relationship. Only if we are self-determined can we get there. Thus, creating livelihoods free from old systems entanglement is our way forward.
- We are inclusive. This implies public engineering, public design (Open Source Microfactory STEAM Camp), public production (Open Source Everything Store), open source microfactories , and collaborative design repositories. This builds freedom of time - as open source is about efficiency and elimination of Competitive Waste while acknowledging Collaborative Waste.
- We transform. We transform education by injecting OSE Clubs into schools - transforming a classroom into a locus of global, collaborate design for the 50 minutes that students are in class. That means we can address important questions by working together.
- We scale collaboration. Between wikis, microfactories, and Incentive Challenges where 1000s of people collaborate meaningfully - we create a new paradigm of progress by collaboration.
