Microhouse Prototype Assessment
Meeting Notes
Wed, 9 Oct 2013
Agenda:
- Backhoe Status: 1) Pivot - Sketchup, 2) Stick - motion analysis, 3) Quick Attach - Concept Drawing
- Documentation Status
Wrap Up
- Backhoe Status:
- Pivot: Sketchup design is 95% done; BOM is next, then assembly work instructions, need to do hydraulics -- hydraulics should be 16" pin-to-pin
- Quick attach: INW & interface piece
- Found a design flaw -- there isn't enough space for the pivot cylinders; Dan is developing a work around
- Documentation:
- Emmett needs to re-do one animation for the deconstruction animation on the LifeTrac 6; its going to take a long time to export the clips though--Emmett is researching to see if there is a way to export a large batch vs individuals
- Emmett's next step: edit & import photos to Trovebox via jpeg; needs resolution standard (must be at least 400x400)
- Rob recorded the Prezi for The Feast
- LifeTrac 6 Documentation: ready for replication -- wheels & cab; can ID what works and what doesn't
- Logistics:
- Prototyping material for scaled modeling; Audrey is going to Hammerspace on Friday to cut more materials
- 10" Bolts from MoKan - won't be here until Wed / Thurs next week; workaround: use threaded rods and cut to size
Tomorrow's Plan
- Microhouse: Handyman Donnie bailed on us, we are going to pursue Labormax and operate within their confines
Tues, 8 Oct 2013
Agenda:
- Backhoe Status: pivot
- Microhouse Update: One DPV plus a temp worker (trying to get Mark), will work on the MH roof on Thurs
- Documentation Status
- Logistics: 1) Cylinder order, 2) Other parts that may be 'long lead' orders? (i.e. 10" bolts?), 3) Add'l Rapid Prototyping materials
Backhoe Status
- Dan suggested using trunions cylinders may work; Marcin brought up issues with using these cylinders wrt sourcing: price & availability; may be able to modify existing cylinders through a weld which will negate adding a special part--may explore welding but there is a risk with welding as well.
- Way forward: Pursue solution that is a single control that gives us 160-170 degrees rotation; draw in LibreCAD--perform analysis, build a scaled model--perform analysis; draw in SketchUp; contact Design Sprinter that offered to do stress analysis
- Stick: need to do motion analysis
- Quick attach: develop a concept drawing for the Quick Attach, need to design the "female" part that is mounted to the backhoe
Microhouse
- Cody will lead roofing on Thurs
Documentation Status
- Emmett will try and do the deconstruction animation today; he has been grouping appropriate parts within the cab
- Rob will go through the video of the cab to break down into a script to assist Emmett's efforts; Rob is also working on a video of the MH
Logistics
- Cylinder order: not yet
- Long Lead parts: 10" bolts from MoKan x 100, 1" washers x 100
- Prototyping materials: screws, 80 pages of what we have; what is the size (working area) of their laser cutter?
- Additional prototyping materials: screws,
Actions
- Backhoe: Dan is working Trig analysis; Marcin is doing LibreCAD drawing; Cody is
- Modeling: Cody is grinding down screws for the 3D modeling
- Inventory: Cody is going to perform inventory
- Audrey will call labor max to reserve Mark or other for roofing
- Audrey will source laser cutting in KC - get info on system
Wrap Up
- Backhoe pivot status: Geomoetry C/W, starting Sketchup; Maercin is working paper models exploring other ideas, Dan completed 2D LibreCAD pivot drawing; Will need to reassess the part that attaches to the quick connect for integration issues
- Modeling:C/W, screws ground down
- Inventory: Cody inventoried all of the plates; we do not need to buy cylinders; will likely need more steel cut -- need to determine last due date for BOM
- Roofer: Donnie, a local handyman, is coming out on Thurs and will work with Cody.
- Laser Cutter source: Audrey is getting Hammerspace membership, calling for more details
- Documentation: Rob is still digitizing footage from MH, Roofing footage is done; Emmett is struggling -- difficult to control Sketchup animation--taking numerous attempts to gain a smooth motion.
Mon, 7 Oct 2013
Agenda: 1) Backhoe Status, 2) Ironworker Status, 3) Microhouse Status, 4) Documentation
Backhoe
- Goal: Decide design vector for pivot by COB today via Tech Tree of Choices; begin 3D modeling of Design in Sketchup
- Backhoe Pivot:
- Using Laser cutter pieces to build a small scale pivot (blog input & newsletter topic)
- Dan & Cody created a viable option that will give us 160 degrees of motion (goal is 180 degress -- 90 degrees on each side)
- Industry standard includes additional control mechanisms on the side of the pivot to allow for additional ROM
- Need to complete a Tech Tree of Choices to determine path forward
- Need to use LibreCAD to do a quick 2D analysis of ROM
- Does 180 degree ROM apply to industry standard Backhoes that do not use a gearbox? What ROM do they get?
- Discussion on custom work: may integrate minor custom work into design to allow for greater ROM; need to include these as options for analysis of complexity
- We have 8" and 10" cylinders; but they may not have the correct diameter cylinders; may need between 8-12" -- let's order what we need today
- Backhoe Bucket:
- Need to determine proper pin mounting
Ironworkwer
- Tabled --Need to discuss with Marcin and roll into schedule
Microhouse
- Microhouse: Need to finish roof...work this into Ironworker / Backhoe schedule; get additional manpower to assist with this from temp agency
Documentation
- Trovebox - DPVs will need to use Rob's login to upload from smartphones
- Need to create a DPV General User account so staff accounts are not compromised
- Need to provide feedback to Trovebox for improvement; we are part of a beta-test...need to include youtube, vimeo, Dozuki access, LibreCAD for simple 2D design -- need instructionals
- New documentation method -- 1) Explode the diagram; 2) Play it in reverse to create a dis-assembly to assembly using animation (i.e. the Phoenix Method w/ animation). Issue: capturing the animation on screen; need to work this out (Rob will work this and get back to us). If it works, they will try the cab.
Other
- Emmett is likely leaving Saturday or Sunday
- Time off -- If DPVs need some downtime, speak up!
- Workshop cleanup
- Media focus this week: Rapid prototyping capability using laser cut pieces
- Meetings: 9am Daily Product Development Meeting; 4:30pm Wrap-up
Actions
- Work on animation and sequencing for documentation purposes and work out our methodology -- Rob & Emmett
- Tech tree of choices for pivot -- Cody
- Build pivot in LibreCAD for 2D ROM analysis -- Dan
- Order cylinders -- Marcin will order if needed
- Shop cleanup -- ALL prior to workshop work today
- Add info to DPV O&M Board: youtube, vimeo, LibreCAD, & Dozuki access -- Audrey (with Rob's help)
- Create a DPV General user account for Trovebox? -- Rob
- Integrate Tech Tree of Choices instructions / protocol into Dev Board -- Marcin
End of Day Wrap Up
Agenda: 1) Status on actions #1-3, 2) Decision: #4, 3) Other issues, 4) Next steps
Status of Actions
- Emmett needs the LFT 6 step instructions (Audrey to send from Gary's Log)
- We will need to take each frame and string them together; need to create procedures process is refined
- Used new capture program iShowU HD
- Tech Tree of Choices: Backhoe Pivot -- Tech Tree of Choices
- Used Coggle to develop Tech Tree -- need to work out Coggle integration issues with our wiki
- LibreCAD update: just used pen & paper and cardboard vs LibreCAD--we have two ideas: 1) two controls/valves for increased range of motion, 2) Single valve with less range of motion. Next step is to use prototyping tools to build each and test the ROM.
- Shop clean up -- some worked was done.
- Rob will contact
