  • On the note of the Terminology Hell of this all, currently clearing up the differences between:
  • From what i understand so far,
    • ”Crude” / Natural Forms are:
    • ”Bitumen” / “Raw Mined Gilsonite” / “Raw Mined Uintatite” etc are a sort of intermediate product
      • It still can be used as is though, and as with Gasoline , a mix that is “good enough” is much more economical than a pure easily understood/handled “pure” chemical (for better or for worse)
    • Finally Asphaltenes and Maltenes (along with elemental carbon akin to Anthracite / Charcoal / Graphite etc and/or some Ash Content Minerals) are the main constituents of these raw forms once purified
      • Varying their ratio can vary the preformance and properties of resulting products as well (and thus may be the main issue why Tar Based Japanning failed, while Gilsonite worked; the Maltene Content.
