Isopropyl Alcohol
From Open Source Ecology
Basics
- Also has other names such as:
- IUPAC name propan-2-ol
- isopropanol
- propanol
- An alcohol based on Propene
- Often used as a disenfectant, but Ethanol and Methanol are easier to produce, and thus should be substituted whenever possible
- May have chemistry uses where ethanol and/or methanol can not replace it
- Thus it may be of use to produce it if supply chains are not available, or if carbon neutrality is desired (as propene is often made from non-renewable crude oil products)
