OSE Apprenticeship - How It Works
About
How do we learn rapidly, and normalize integrated, diverse skill sets and creativity?
- We leverage Collaborative Learning and swarm-based Collaborative Lifetime Design. In this process - an entry level but deep activity is taking things apart. This provides deep learning, and a hunger for easy-to-repair design.
- To learn design-build skill - apprentices contribute to real product development by designing and then producing materials. Materials are designed in FreeCAD, and are then 3D printed. This applies to landscape block, porous pavement, trim, siding, roofing, lumber electrical boxes, plumbing fittings, and many other functional parts. By working on practical projects, apprentices get to learn in the fastest way possible. This also turns all apprentices into significant contributors to the actual product. This also applies the Edge of Knowledge concept - as many of the things that we will be doing have never been done in an economically signficant way, and will create new possibilities for society at large. For this purpose, he OSE Materials Production Facility contains 3D printers, plastic shredder, and filament maker to make 3D printing filament from waste plastic including wood-filled filament. The Rapid Learning Facility provides apprentices with the necessary integrated skill sets readily. Edge of Knowledge training opens up apprentices' minds to the very possibility of the above. Integrated Physical Training turns such performance almost into an olympic sport.
- To learn more advanced design for core design iterations on top of the materials development, students start with Design Guides for Everything, which break down the technosphere into about 500 key modules. Such design would not be possible without actually building and testing the designs, which will be done using 3D printing, CNC cutting, and CNC precision machining. To this end, the Materials Production Facility contains a high end CNC mill, CNC grinder, 3D printers, CNC torch tables, induction furnace, wire drawing, and a roll forge in addition to many other tools.
- To learn collaboration - apprentices learn to work in seamlessly-coordinated, 24 person teams.
