Upcycling

Basics

• The conversion of some form of recycling/waste material into a material in a different use case, with higher utility
• Unlike the concept of Creative Reuse this page goes into more artistic applications, rather than the more industrial applications of upcycling

As Aggregate

• Clinkers, Slag , and old cement/concrete debris can be used as aggregate in new Concrete mixed
• Some processes may be needed to obtain the proper particle size

As Fiber

• Polyester is essentially just recycled PET (Plastics)

As Insulation

• Many types of Clinkers, Slag can be made into Basalt Fiber / Fiberglass and thus can be used like Fiberglass Batting Insulation
• Waste Plastic can also be used in this manner, but this may not be the best use case if other technologies are available

As Breakwater Material

• Clinkers, Slag , and old cement/concrete debris can be used as material for roads/paths in a similar manner to gravel
• Some processes may be needed to obtain the proper particle size, and geometry
• Also, given in this use case the material will be exposed to the environment and people, research/testing needs to be conducted to ensure it is not toxic (mainly as a leaching risk, but dust inhalation / bioaccumulation are also potential risks

As Road Material

• Clinkers, Slag , and old cement/concrete debris can be used as material for roads/paths in a similar manner to gravel
• Some processes may be needed to obtain the proper particle size, and smoothness
• Also, given in this use case the material will be exposed to the environment and people, research/testing needs to be conducted to ensure it is not toxic (mainly as a leaching risk, but dust inhalation / bioaccumulation are also potential risks
