  (Knittic and Circular Knittic) It's kind of two different histories. The circular machine was developed by a modern artist duo and is all open source. But they do other art stuff mostly now. Mar is one of them. The linear machine was developed by a dude that like you said open sourced the old non-working version and continued on to develop a new closed source version.
