OSE Proposal 2024
Contents
Summary
OSE solves impossible problems. If you have an impossible global problem, and nobody else can help, then here we come. Our approach is to solve housing, energy, manufacturing, and world peace, followed by opening the technosphere in general for universal financial independence. The environment is solved by ecological operation of the first 3. World peace is solved by distribution of financial independence world wide based on abundant resources. This is a mindset, and this mindset hardly exists. We are here to educate this mindset, taking millions through our programs in the next 5 years, from 20 to 200 to 2000 in 3 years, and moving on from there.
Working Doc
Campus Bootstrap Operation
The world presents itself with one in a million 5-Legged Dogs, but world transformation requires it. OSE is designed to meet this need. We bootstrap operations via scalable, modular design, Rapid Learning Facilities, and an orientation of leveling the playing field. These provide the technical means, rapid learning, and purpose required for a moonshot.
Facilities are build as framed modules using milled and off-shelf lumber, with an infrastructure of 3D printing initially, moving on to solar hydrogen, CEB, milled lumber, solar steel, and solar concrete to cover the material needs.
Pedagogy Innovation
There is a significant portion of curriculum that occurs in the form of productive work that is based on extensive prototyping of the Seed Eco-Home. This is the 'bread and butter' of building anything. 3D printer, automation, and machine design tops off our capacities. To this, we add a healthy dose of innovation as we make the learning process more effective by including teaching in the learning process:
- 2 days of structured work building Seed Eco-Homes
- Day 3: RLF Development - we combine swarm collaboration and collaborative design to develop advanced skills in swarm-based collaboration. Working seamlessly between physical builds, digital design, and digital fabrication - we aim to realize material abundance by producing powerful machines of productivity and its automation. One day a week, we work in the RLF to both study and evolve our Part Library and Modules Libraries. We use the base reference of Design Guides to improve and design new learning modules, and to update the Design Guide itself/ Apprentices contribute actively to refining the RLF modules, and test the content on others in the program. As such, apprentices are teachers.
- Day 4: Outside of the one day in the RLF, we spend a day on mojo. We motivate deep purpose in the work by teaching a stoic philosophy of life, with moral intelligence as our compass to living a good life and improving the world for everyone by leveling the playing field. This is our day of Learning How to Learn, Learning how to Be an Integrated Human, learning how to think, mind-body practice where we learn about human physiology and psychology, leadership, and peak performance applied to solving pressing world issues.
- Day 5: We collaborate on a final group project, where we develop a new product at the 4 year mark as the graduation project. The entire cohort works on this, and includes the next 3 cohorts in the capacity that they can provide.
Strategy
The OSE strategy is to teach teachers. More specifically, we first teach learning/teaching metaskills by providing the task-oriented goal of building curriculum. Thus, the kernel required is a set of rapid learning modules for the RLF which consists of merely opensourcing the technosophere. The metaskill that we learn is a technical skill of creating integrated, degenerate technology ecosystems. We use these (tools, materials, machines) to build innovative homes on the open market. We further open source the design, compliance, and operations aspects, so that anyone can leapfrog and replicate across many contexts.
Learning format includes plenty of hands-on activity in the RLF, coupled with Learning How to Learn and Teach seminars of 2 hours per day. Bootstrap funding is obtained through a 2 day working schedule and 3 day learning schedule.
Rapid Learning occurs when you apply what you learn to immediate needs. To this end, we opensource further building technique, tools, materials, and techniques involved. We further go to the point of the rapid learning materials (construction set RLF modules) that enable widespread replication for purposes of financial independence on a level playing field.
Tracks
The standard track is 2:3 days of work:study on the Seed Eco-Home backed up by a dedicated RLF of 3000 sf for the Seed Eco-Home. Everyone starts as an apprentice, but can move on to design, machines, and other topics. We have 2 days of build, and the Learning How to Learn is on Day 3, Moral Intelligence is Day 4, and Swarm Collaboration is on Day 5.
Everyone learns how to engage in the open source collaborative method, starting with documentation/coordination, motivation and integrated human work (moral intelligence etc), and moving on to design skills. We have a health facility where we learn about all kinds of human possibility, by practicing 100 different arts of mind-body work from strength to flexibility to mobility etc as a basis for a healthy body.
People with fabrication and welding experience can take on the machines track immediately. Apprentices with agriculture skill can take on agriculture and nursery tasks (for plant propagation required of landscaping, including edible landscapes and food crops).
People who require financial aid can work on Saturday, in housing, site maintenance, or other work.
Capacity
The size of the housing market determines our immediate growth possibility up to a Billion Per Day Operation. The local Kansas City market cans sustain 25 homes per day, meaning about 20 local OSE Campuses of 240 people if they dominated the house construction market.
