Intro

OSE is into Collaborative Creation of Genius as a pre-requisite to adderssing the potential existential risk of humans gaining the power of gods without gaining the wisdom of gods. Integrated learning is required for being responsible as denizens, not narrow, disciplinary learning that does not recognize connections to othe disciplines. The latter, by design, causes major disruptions in social and natural life support systems today. There are some factors such as Ponerology and psychological mindsets of scarcity - but by and large - major improvement in societal funcitoning can occur only with integrated education.

This goes into Rapid Learning, augmented learning in the digital age, and psychologically - into the Authentic Sharing of Cutting Edge Information. The world does not engage in the latter, as patents and trade secrets dominate and limit the ability of people by contributing to Second Best learning, not unleashed learning.

OSE Work

It is a worthwhile exercise to document examples of rapid learning, with intent of creating a replicable infrastructure for enabling such optimized learning for anyone. First, what is the quickest that a really 'smart' person can learn a topic? Second, how can we teach the tools that this smart person uses to any other person who is capable of learning? And third, how do we package this education in an accessible way such that anyone can access and benefit?

Since we claim rapid learning faster than ever before - we'd like to learn more. Already we combine psychology, theory, hands-on skills, learning-by-doing, highly interdisciplinary approach, non-expertism, Design Guides, open source blueprints, source files, wiki logs for time binding, enterprise knowhow - and we teach about peak performance while expanding both possibility and opportunity. We collaborate radically, and by combining livelihood creation with interdisciplinary, modular, hands-on, test-driven, extreme, paired, swarming, experiential, dogfooding, design-thinking, multimodal learning - with prepared learning environments such as OSE Linux - and physical plant (Factor e Farm) - with socratic dialogue - with global community virtually - and ever-openness to learning - we go far.

The next question is optimized teaching videos for rapid learning, which include source files in the learning environment of OSE Linux. This requires top-graded input from open source experts in the topics, and is best implemented via a modular approach of picking small contributions from a large number of people - as no single person has all the answers. Collectively - we can get to larger answers that can then be disseminated for the collaborative creation of genius.

Test Case

For example, document the test case of an advanced architecture workflow that involves desingngin a house from scratch and building it. A single person designs and builds, including sophisticated elements of FEA, BIM, automated BOM generation, 3D printing and CAM-generated building materials, along with an open source remote control tractor to do the site prep. We also include lime burnign on PV energy to generate concrete from rocks, and lumber mill for wood from trees, CEBs for masonry, and plastic lumber from a large 3D printer. How fast can a complete novice learn this?

I believe it could be as fast as 6 month, possibly 3. Based on preemptive learning.

Preemptive Learning - PL

PL relies on a mind being prepared to accept a wide range of experience. This starts with assuming that one aleady knows all the skills, but needs to dig them up and shine them so they can be executed in a short time.

The process starts first with understanding a purpose to this. It is not nice to learn all of that. It could indeed be a solution to an existential crisis of humanity - where unless individuals are independent and fully capable of thriving - can then collaborate truly with others. So here is one mental model of a motivation that could provide fuel. Other individauls may come up with other reasons - such as making a good living teaching those skills, starting a successful enterprise doing this, or rebuilding their communities, stepping stone to going to Mars to do the same, being a teacher, being a professor, etc.

Second, one needs to think ab initio for how to do these things, drawing on their existing knowledge through an internal socratic dialogue to uncover more insight. Some may call this meditation, others may call it inspiration - or just plain deductive logic, or thinking - whatever. One needs to engage on this, and this takes learning to focus.

One would think, write, design, do calculations, use a computer, etc to explore the points of learnign in more depth, and continue working on this internally - before any teaching from the outside or hands-on exploration takes place. Visualising the actions beforehand - figuring out the mental game - actions, thoughts, feelings, sensations of doing the thing - before engaging in it. Thinking about questions that one does not know. Learning to ask qeustions - because if one can ask questions, one can then get answers.

Then - the actual learning and hands-on takes place. Then one is acting on things that one was prepared for mentally. Otherwise, the material is completely new and foreign. If the material has been preemptively learning (processed internally beforehand) - then the rate of learning can be unprecedented. This is a capacity that anyone can learn, from gutterpunks to PhDs - and the common man who has an open mind can easily have an easier time learning than a PhD, who may need to do significant un-learning of prejudices, preconceptions, and plain inaccurate Mental Models before beginning to learn authentically.

Take the Test Case

So take the test case above - break it into 1 hour chunks of learning, and create the best experience for that hour for learning the thing, then teach.

Breakdown will result in perhaps 200 hours of learning - but of power-packed, juicy learning - not an hour of lecture. The hour would include psychology-theory-principle-practice. And each hour could perhaps require 40 hours of work to prepare, and perhaps cost thousands. So we have 8000 hours and a $2M budget. But then it all comes together and thousands of poeple can learn. $2M/thousands is only a few hundred bucks cost per person. So the radical learning infrastructure can be created within a reasonable budget.

Let's test this with the mini civilization construction program - of which the inaugural instance is the OSE Apprenticeship of 6 month duration. This wiki article describes the psychology WHY of the 6 month program, so that everyone participating can do so with this greater vision in mind.

The resources simply have to be there. Physical plant (hundreds of thousands of value like naywhere else), consumable materials (100s of thousands), immediate materials/infrastructure - $100k; outsourced incentive challenge - $100k, and staff - $200k. 24 people can fund a significant portion at $12k/pop, otherwise OSE and global collaboration brings in millions of value (2000 of people participating for 24 hours is $1M at $20/hr).
