Basics

  • Making this page to keep short non ranty (or at least less ranty) / link spam ideas on here rather than User Eric’s Temporary Trashcan Page or in my Daily Log
  • Mainly just getting ideas out of my head and onto the internet so if I don’t get around to them first someone else can see it and do something with it

  • A Three Part Plastic Alternative to Battery Taping
  • A Clothes Tumble Dryer that has:
    • A Sealed System HEPA for the exhaust such that:

  • A (Rectangular) Mess Tin but:
    • Optimized for use with a Larger (and Vacuum Insulated) Box which could be made:
      • For getting the maximum amount of heat out of a Flameless Ration Heater
      • For getting the maximum amount of heat out of a DC-Heater (which as per MRE Oven can be used for FRH Preheating etc)
    • While also retaining the ability to be used as is/directly over a fire/stove etc
    • Solid Fuel Tablet Stoves optimized for this form factor (preferably with heat exchangers for bulkier versions) would be nice as well
    • Also MOLLE/PALS Compatible Softshell Cases
  • Novel Applications of Synthetic Spider Silk (unless someone did a PROPER patent on this already, need to look into this later; Existing Synthetic Spider Silk Patents etc)
  • A “Wheel Chock” but optimized for reducing roll of Pipeline Pigs in the Pipeline Pig Decontamination process
    • A Triangular Block that is heavy and pressure washable + has a handle on one side would be ideal
      • Potentially even just a tapped Stainless Steel Block may be great if it’s heavy enough to work but not too heavy to safely move
    • Also that Pipeline Pig Washer concept (if i didn’t ramble about it on here yet)
  • A Firestarter made of a more reactive/“spicy” mix that is encapsulated in wax for storage/safety reasons
    • Once the wax layer is burnt up/scraped off it GOES (akin to that (potentially patented) “hell’s putty” which is like energetic mix with Magnesium Chips / Magnesium Millings mixed in

  • ASMBL but utilizing (mildly, such as CF potentially?) a means to electrify the part as it is printed, but especially milled, akin to Powder Coating , such that the M/Np Pollution is directed towards the negative charged suction exhaust moreso
    • May need to pulse the power every so often to prevent “stalagtites” / clogs in the suction nozzle/hose?
    • ASMBL toolhead for the Prusa XL too!
  • A “Patio Fire Tornado Tube” style Pellet Stove, however:
    • Either a port for ignition, or a lifting mechanism akin to what I described for the “ultimate hurricane lantern”
    • Dedicated ash removal, ideally a rotary airlock (or primitive adaptation of the concept)
    • Potentially Angled Annular Secondary Air etc (potentially with blowers, thermoelectric when ‘that patent’ expires) and/or impinging fins and/or fins at the top to encourage “tornado” formation
  • A Hot Tent Stove with optional Pellet / Wood Chip Hopper, and dedicated ash removal
  • A (Goofy) Device for Electric Vehicle Low Speed Noise Generation configured to:
    • Increase noise / modify it when pedestrians/animals are detected and based on proximity to them
      • This could also be done to play the “Jaws Theme” and thematically change it as you approach lol
    • Also could give users tunable aspects/different versions of said noise
  • A “VDU Kiln” wherin Oil/Resedue can be “cooked” out of something, but it is then fed to a Flare Stack , VDU , or VRU rather than to atmosphere
  • A miniaturized version with (mostly) solar thermal heating akin to a Solar Wood Kiln would be especially nice
    • GAC Adsorption and/or a Woodchip Biofilter may be ideal for smaller systems such as these
  • A Propane-Plasma (or Battery HV) hybrid Blowtorch (instead of piezo ignition)

  • A Hybrid Between a UCO Candle Lantern and a Hurricane Lantern
    • The Fuel Stability of Candles, but the Wind Resistance of Hurricane Lanterns
  • A Hurricane Lantern using Linear Rails (or something similarly overkill) for lifting the glass riser, rather than a wire/cam like the Feurhand Lantern
  • A Butane - Plasma Lighter based “hybrid” Zippo Lighter Insert
  • An Automatic Folding Lantern / Stonebridge Candle Lantern but modernized via:
  • A Means for Battery Electric Vehicle Firefighting (and to a lesser extent larger Battery Storage Unit Firefighting) consisting of:
    • A Fire Blanket and Ergonomic Aids for it’s Deployment (Hooks/Grommets and Rope and/or Hand Tools + A Bag it Deploys Out of etc
    • A Dry Fog / Mist etc Pancake Nozzle (Firefighting) (for thermal reduction, but also potentially “cutting down” Particulate Matter, VOCs, and other HAPs (in a manner akin to pressure washing in a tank, or Steam Stipping etc
    • An Intrinsically Safe Fan and/or Explosionproof Fan + Fire Resistant Ducting such that air is circulated through the plenum under the Fire Blanket+Vehicle to reduce the risk of Flammable Gas Buildup
      • A Flare Stack or VDU could be used, or potentially just a Filter Box / Tube of GAC then vent to atmosphere
    • Use of Spill Boom/Flexible Spill Dikes and a Vacuum Hose could also allow for collecting of polluted water
    • All in all this approach of WaterC Fire Blanket, and Explosive Gas/Pollution Control may make wuite the system
      • Would be SOMEWHAT expensive, but a Tow Behind Trailer + a bit of Off The Shelf Environmental Service Gear (Cam Lock Fittings, Hoses, “Copus Fans”, potentially even Inert Gas Cylinders etc) could make a kit for BEV Fire Response than could Stabilize things long enough for a Forklift/Tow Truck (for repositioning of the burning BEV and/or moving it into a scaled up spill pallet (or just Roll Off Box / Air Curtain Burner but for flaming BEVs), and Vac Truck/Full on Environmental Services spill response team (to contain+adsorb and transport off the adsorbent+PCW etc) to arrive as well
    • If funds permit it, having a means of measuring/inspecting under the blanket via a probe or rover etc may also be worthwhile
  • A Liquid Fuel Storage Bottle that is:
    • A Hybrid between the MSR Fuel Bottle and the Trangia Fuel Bottle
      • It has the Impact Extrusion ultra-durable bottle of MSR
        • Although Hard Coat Anodization and either no paint, or non-MNP pollution concern Powder Coating Materials like PLA or PHA , or maybe Japanning etc
        • A MOLLE/PALS Compatible Bottle Holster, as well as Multi-Bottle Gridfinity esque bottle transporters would be nice as well
      • It has the easy pour dispenser of the Trangia Style Design
        • To prevent accidental spills, the screw should have a locking pin, or be a nozzle that is unscrewed and replaced with a MSR style screw cap for tranport; a flip between the two may also work
        • Finally for redundancy+damage protection, a Thermos style Threaded EXTERNAL cap + O-Ring could be used as well
      • Models with Vacuum Insulation may be worth investigating
      • Using similar form factor bottles for Propane would be neat in that gear could fit either
        • Probably not IDEAL, but for something below a 1lb Fuel Keg one could perhaps make the case
      • Laser Engraved HAZCOM labels for Kerosene / Paraffin , White Gas / Gasoline , Fuel Alcohol , or Single Fuel Concept Fuel would be neat

  • A better pump sprayer:
    • Jerry Can type design for overall ergonomics
    • Utilize an external air pump and anti-backflow valves for durability, rather than an integrated pump assembly that leaks/falls apart/has the handle integrated as the pump etc
    • Also maybe make the base wide/have some removable boot UNLIKE a jerry can but so that it doesn’t tip over easily etc
  • Though about it a WHILE back, so may already be in this list but basically the tech behind those Improved Pit Latrines but adapted to Biodrying / Aerobic Digestion or Anaerobic Digestion in Dumpsters
    • Also would want those anti-ant moats, secondary containment/adsorption of dumpster juice, and GAC on the Solar Chimney for Odor+Fly Control (have mesh on the chimney too)
    • Could use a standard dumpster BUT
      • It goes into a “dock”
      • The bottom is replaced with a mesh and/pr grate for aeration
      • A Fitting is added to the top for suction/chimney
      • Painted black for Solar Thermal etc
    • Could also integrate load cell based “fullness” detection potential, but more gimmick than the other features tbh

  • A Modern Flintlock Lighter that is less gun-derived
    • Neat in terms of Appropriate Materials and quite slick, but most are basically just flintlock musket's adapted into a fancy aristocractic lighter
    • Modern Manufacturing + Skimping on some parts (such as fancy finishes / handle material) + adapting for use with more conventional modern tinders (rather than a Tinderbox or Black Powder) would be neat
  • A Kelly Kettle but improved via Vacuum Insulation or at LEAST an air gapped wall
    • Especially with Additive Manufacturing , although not necessarily, one could do all sorts of stuff like make the Chimney a Coil / more serpentine, add Heat Exchanger Fins to that, Integrate a Burner (For Propane etc) make a Solo Stove type Secondary Air inlet for use on Wood Fire etc
  • A Vacuum Thermos / Water Bottle "Crumple Zone" Layer based off of either Expanded Metal (Packing or a Formed Unit), or via Additive Manufacturing
    • Granted a "Cozy" or Elastomer based sacrificial outer layer is obviously still nice, but figured something integral to the bottle / made of fireproof metal may be of use in some contexts
  • Pepper Spray / Bear Spray with an Integrated Aiming Laser and Auditory Alarm (Triggered Upon Using/When an Arming Pin is Pulled etc)
    • Seen both of those available SEPARATELY off the shelf, but none in some unified unit
  • 18650 Cell or Tri-AAA Battery Run (With Design for Alkaline or Ni-MH Rechargeable)
  • Consumer Butane and Propane Tanks with a Vapor Return Port
    • Butane Lighter could be two pins, one snaking to the top of the tank (may need to be an internal tube/less easily done due to the low cost of the refill tanks)
      • Potentially using a LARGER Butane tank, and having it be done as a service could be done as well "50 Cents for a Lighter Refill" etc
      • For Propane, need to look into if the existing Autogas / CNG Standards have a return line
      • All else that would be needed would be the right adapters, of which they MAY be able to screw on a standard 20lb tank etc
  • A Desiccant System Like This but using a (Non-Cobalt etc) Color Indicating Silica Gel, inside a Fine Stainless Steel or Hard Coat Anodized Aluminum Canister
    • Could also have either a Microscope Slide (For Glass) or Sapphire Watch Glass (For more scratch resistant Glass) Option to view the color indicating
    • A similar system could also work well for Granulated Activated Carbon etc
      • Either semi-disposable, or with some Steam Regeneration Flow Through Base
        • Could even make a neat Kettle / Steam Boiler Unit for that
  • A Megaphone That:
    • Uses 18650 Cells or a PILE of AA/AAA Cells in Adapters (or SOME SORT of standardized rechargeable arrangement)
    • Also has a 12v Barrel Jack or USB-C Power In (for use independent of batteries) (Also could configure for charge-through)
    • Audio in/out 9 3.5mm Jack would be the standard, XLR would be a nice splurge
    • Also one of those Handheld Radio standards for the removable microphone bit
    • Almost all OTS units use an integral or custom rechargeable battery, or a PILE of D Cells
    • Also a hardwired microphone or none etc

  • Was pressure washing off the containment by the Tank Farm
    • Had me thinking of:
      • Using Paraffin Wax / Something akin to Japanning as a Concrete Coating
        • A Method of Testing the Biodegradation Rate of Non-Paint Coatings via having a modified Petri Dish with two sections:
          • A Cylindrical Tube with Graduations to determine Wear Rate
          • A “detection” agar or other media to determine when something has “broken through”
          • Main downsides to this method would be the time it takes for some materials, and the data only being relevant to whatever Microbes / Surface Microbiome is used
            • Having standardized pure strains + mixes + local swabs would probably suffice, albeit requiring much testing
