Basics
- A YouTube Channel by Julian Brown Documenting His Efforts on Pyrolysis
- Mainly focusing on Microwave Pyrolysis of Plastic Waste ( RDF ) for production of Gasoline and Diesel Fuel
- The current (Version 4.5) reactor can work in a semi-continuous manner
- Given the magnetrons run off electricity as of now it could be run off of 100% Renewables such as Solar (akin to the goals of Solar Cement etc)
- There is a fundraiser for a PV+Battery Array In the Works/Ongoing
Meetups
- One going down in jacksonville tonight; will try and make it
Potential Routes for Improvement/Collaboration
Spill Containment/Spill Response Prep
- Uncertain on how much Fuel/Petcoke / Crude etc is stored etc, but having Seccondary Containment setup, and a Spill Response Kit onsite would be nice
- Also check if he has Eyewashing Stations+Emergency Showers onsite or not
- As a cheaper alternative, those sterile Blow Fill Seal bottles of saline can get the job done etc
Emissions Control
- Flarestack Design
- Vapor Combustion Unit / Vapor Recovery Unit
- Fugitive Dust Emissions
- VOCs / Carbon Monoxide etc emissions
- Particulate Matter Emissions
Firefighting
- What gear he has onsite
- Job Hazard Analysis / Process Hazard Analysis
- Does he have the local numbers listed somewhere
- What Fire Extinguishers does he have on hand
- What Smoke Detectors / Carbon Monoxide Alarms etc does he have onsite
Potential Tests
- Chinese Whitelabel Multifuel Stove on “Plastoline” and/or “Plastidiesel”
- A Mantle Lantern such as a Propane Mantle Lantern on Plastoline, Plastidiesel, or Syngas / Plasti-LPG
- Do a test akin to that done for TopTier Gasoline but with Plastoline and Off The Shelf Cheap Gasoline
- Main concern is does it need a Fuel Detergency Additive
- Developing an Open Source OpenCup Flash Point Testing Apparatus
- Laboratory Glassware for refining more pure fractions / doing some Bio-Petrochemistry
- Hazel Chem did some of this in their Plastic Pyrolysis series
- Thermal Cracking of Plastic Pyrolysis Oil into an all LPG fraction
- Tests with RDF , Cellulosic Biomass , and Wet Algae
- Ash Content of the Petcoke
- BTEX content of the Pyrolysis Oil and Derived Products
- TAN / TBN
- Halogen and Salt Content of Pyrolysis Oil and Derived Products
