Overview

General

OSE's program intends to provide a 3 month immersion where people learn practical skills across philosophy, design, build, and enterprise areas related to collaborative design of products that make a difference. The focus is on collaborative design for a transparent and inclusive economy of abundance. Our goal is to offer a transformative, practical experience that is unlike anything else in the world.

For example, we don't just build tractors. We build lifetime design tractors using our open source CNC torch table, based on construction set modules, that can be replicated inexpensively anywhere in the world. But even more than this - we teach people how to collaborate - to transformed the economy to open collaboration - just like has happened with open source software forming the backbone of the information economy.

3 Tracks

There will be 3 tracks of related learning, but with different goals:

  • Track 1: Student track - if you are in college and are interested in diversifying your skill set into open source fab labs for material production of appropriate technology - this is for you.
  • Track 2: Enterprise track - for individuals roaring to set up their own microfactory to begin producing in their own communities. You will be equipped with a skill set to produce 3D printers, CNC torch tables, plastic recycling equipment, cordless drills, 3D printing filament, and brushless electric motors.
  • Track 3: Teacher track - if you are interested in teaching the Open Source Microfactory STEAM Camp, this track is for you.

Month 1

General

  1. Each day consists of 1.5 hours of lecture, 6.5 hours of practice.
  2. Enterprise track involves 2 additional hours of class every evening (8-9:30 PM), for those who are interested in starting a business after 3 months of the Summer. We cover production engineering, BOM specification, workshop layout, quality control, certification. This is likewise a collaborative, co-creation process.
  3. Printing, Filament Making via recycling, and torch tables, and metal printer for heavy metal parts. Safety and safety equipment for rapid collaborative design. Safety Ground Rules
  4. 3 tracks: track 1 - student; track 2 - entrepreneur

Schedule

  1. Week 1 - Build of D3D Simple, Universal Controller, FreeCAD, Collaborative Literacy training, Collaborative Design training. Recycler. Printer with heated enclosure. Geardowns.
    1. Day 1 - OSE and Collaborative Literacy - 2 hrs. Build of D3D Simple from fully prepared kit.
    2. Day 2 - FreeCAD 101 and first prints in 1 Hour. Collaborative Design Process: designing and building a Useful Object of choice, while producing all the necessary documentation assets.
    3. Day 3 - Recycling Shredder - 3D printing parts for the Recycler. CNC Torch Table and Cutting parts for Shredder.
    4. Day 4 - Filament Maker - 3D printing parts, building.
  • 3D Printing - building D3D Simple, and up to a 4x8 foot area 3D Printer, and High Temperature 3D Printer (177C heated chamber)
  • Filament Making
  • Torch Table.
  • Oxyhydrogen CNC Torch Table - optional if we can develop oxyhydrogen production in a reliable way.
  • Skills covered: FreeCAD, Collaborative Design, Universal Axis, Universal Controller, CNC Machines - 3D printers with different tool heads: rubber, high temp chamber,
  • Safety Equipment - 3D printed hard hat with ear protection and face shield, 3D printed safety glasses with cut PC, Open Source Welding Mask, shop light. Modular strap, earpieces. Skills badges 3D printed onto helmet. Your hard hat is a status badge for gamification, while retaining collaborative design and uplifting the skills of others. Exams are prepared for badges. 3D print-cast lenses with Supervolcano nozzle as casting system in chamber followed by vacuum chamber for air bubbles.

Month 2

  • Tractor, Bulldozer, and 360 Degree Backhoe
    • First ever 3D printed rubber tracks and wheels
  • Brick Press with Soil Mixer
  • Baler

Month 3

  • Aquaponics Greenhouse
  • CEB Houses
  • Ponds and keylines

  • Aquaponics system with planting drones
