So my local Curbside Recycling Collection went from taking a good mix of stuff, to the sort of “realist version” of only taking the currently profitable stuff (PET bottles and some other plastics (PE maybe, I’ll check later, Metals, and Corrugated Containerboard)
‘’’NOW’’’ for whatever reason they are swapping to Landfill Only…
I’ll probably manually step on cans and take those in (Although a goofy Automatic Pneumatic Can Crusher would be neat!
I COULD make a PET Bottle Meltrusion Based FDM Filament Maker type thing (Such as the Petamentor / PETbot et)
I am a bit unsure on what to do for Paper/Cardboard/Containerboard, it WOULD probably all turn into Landfill Gas (so basically a crappy version of sending it to Anaerobic Digestion ). I know the Duet Landfill just flares that though so not that great (if that is done at my local one, i can dig for info on that)
I am unsure on potential pollutants, but as per Small Scale Waste Incineration , as long as the Inks/Labels etc don’t contain anything extreme, it shouldn’t make anything a ICE Powered Car makes (So reduce Fly Ash + Smoke and it’s fine, could maybe even do BOAR type Ash Utilization
Basically now I’m just thinking I’ll try and get that Diode Laser and use the cardboard for projects, and Make Charcoal/Fire from the rest.
Granted the status quo (ESPECIALLY pre them just doing the “profitable stuff” ) was probably not that great either (Greenwashed Landfilling, or sending it off for Open Burning / Open Dumping in some poor country, etc) but now it isn’t out of sight out of mind and all that so it has me thinking.
The local Home Depot + Ace Hardware (unsure on Lowes) do carry Bottle Jacks so i can make a semi-automated (or at least way faster+more dry than pure manual) press with those
An Immersion Blender or bit for my M18 Hammerdrill or Impact Driver shouldn’t be too expensive (less than 50 usd or so, especially if i snag a used one)
I was already thinking of making that Solar Kiln for Debris / Pruning Waste drying for use as firewood so that networks in well.
All in all it seems doable, ose relevant, and useful so i am quite sure I’ll try this (main limit is time and what i can get away with in the house lol)
Could MAYBE try and do local recycling collection and network into that Fleming Island Makerspace type plot, but that is a LARGE amount of executive function and time for me, so i want to but also no promises (at least unless y’all hype me up lol)
Anywho i just wanted to post an update on all this / context behind it
