11/6/2024
*Still hoping this is some odd dream sleep deprived me is having…but i had the displeasure of seeing the news in my feed after work today.
*I honestly just don’t know what to say, they did it they straight up did it

10/25/2024
*Small Scale RDF Workflow stuff (also a bit last night)
*Had a job today 10 or 25 gallons of diesel fuel or something spilled, so large enough all the agencies and whatnot, and thus the company got involved
**Was over the grass by an intersection (they pulled over, ‘’’NOTE: From a Cleanup Perspective it is Better to Stay On Pavement if a Vehicle is Leaking (short of if you are avoiding a waterway/drain) ;  Pouring adsorbant and sweeping it up is easier than scooping soil up and all that’’’
**We did rent a Backhoe which was GREAT
***Backhoe, Rol-Off Box (for the contaminated soil), and a Dump Trailer for fresh soil made real quick work of it all
***The only other improvement i can really think of would be Hydroseeding and a Bale Chopper
****Unless they demand Sod that is, although that isn’t too bad to work with
**I’ll grab a picture of the controls, but the backhoe also had me thinking of my Modular Vehicle Simulator type stuff,  need WAAAAAAAY more levers to replicate this machine!
*Anywho just wanted to jog my thoughts on this down, I’ll keep you posted

9/24/2024
*Been busy at work but thrown in some car ride edits every so often
*I really am intrigued at the biomass potential of these vines, one variety made these fruits of sorts but they seem to be mostly starch/potato like
*The sheer amount of litter has me thinking about Litter Cleanup Methods , part of me wonders  some sort of version akin to those Rock Pickers but for plastic waste could make sense?
**Also reading up on + making a page for that Ocean Cleanup (and more importantly their river interceptor, and similar other designs) would be nice, a mini one for the stream would be neat
*Also California is doing some case on “The Recycling Scam”, one one hand i get it and it is valid, but also the “cannot be recycled really” typically glosses over W2E (although this is just fossil fuels with extra steps to an extent) or how “Not Economical” ‘’’really just means’’’ not economical compared to fresh plastic from fossil fuels…which shouldn’t be an option (ie TRL should be the main issue, Carbon Taxes/Subsidies is the how
*ALTHOUGH people often neglect the reduce/reuse aspect of it all, and marketing and whatnot is partially to blame for the culture and all that but i just had to ramble about this SOMEWHERE lol
*I also saw some lawn care truck advertising their use of electric equipment on the way to work today so I’ll add that when i do my Gas Powered vs Battery Electric Landscaping Equipment at Scale article type thing
*I also got some fire related stuff (a plasma-butane lighter combo thing which is great so far, i just need a candle type one now!, and an Off The Shelf Rocket Stove type thing as well as some 20usd or so heat spreader for stoves (basically uses mesh to make it into a heater
*I geeked out a bit on Sun Protection stuff, and may have found some more gear to get for that so that is another project to document (as well as Evidence Based Skincare although i am too bad at routines to master that yet)
*Evidence Based Lawncare / SHERPA type things have been on my mind too, optimal cut height for health of the grass, something like “Mow Only When Needed” (so before a party/picnic or whatever but otherwise it has flowers and whatnot for the bees)
*Also i seem to be getting ahead of the vines and some sort of disease is getting at them, part of me wants to make some soup almost like Phage Therapy meets Integrated Pest Management !  That type of experimentation would have to be on my own time though lol
*Also Anual Topsoil Growth on Lawns / Topsoil Erosion / how much topsoil you can “add” to lawns or other ecosystems without breaking anything
*My HTC digging was related to this, but basically if the biomass / p2x economy took off could you just dump a PILE of Biochar + Humic Acid Synthetic Amazonian Black Earth type stuff into a lawn or elsewhere to sequester carbon and terraform the soil to be better (also what DOESN’T grow well in SABE is worth looking into)
*’’’Had some spills at a concrete mix plant, admixture tank cracked open’’’
**I’ll document the admixtures, it was some Lignosulphate type thing from paper mills supposedly, looked like soy sauce almost
**Also good example of poor Secondary Containment planning, and Plastic Tank Lifespan thinking/inspecting them for cracks/damage/deterioration
*I was pumping Degreaser which is always a mess (leaky hand pump, foam in the Pump Pressure Sprayer getting all over
**I was thinking ANOTHER example of one of those dedicated wash bay type things is you could have your degreaser etc there that way any mess can be washed away into the drain
*Also Shredder Sump Pumps / Macerator Pumps !  The ones we have in the Tank Farm’s Containment Berm Constantly clog up with leaves.  If we could get one that just eats those leaves up it would no longer be an issue! That and/or just good bit to think of / plan for FeF or other projects
*’’’Rambling but I just wanted to get thoughts on paper, and keep you all posted’’’
*Hurricane coming in the next few days, my area (Jacksonville) should MOSTLY just get strong wind and a good bit of rain, but will be cautious and all that but no worrying needed there!
*May be “mobilized” for spill cleanup with JEA in which case I’ll be very busy and/or waiting in a truck for spills that don’t come (in which case pile of time for edits)
*But yeah that’s about everything, I’ll maybe move this to a more proper page but yeah I’ll keep you posted!

9/6/2024
*All done with that project and heading back to Jax now
**’’although’’ due to being too polite and/or trying to build up credit/repoire and all that i may be going back on Monday as they have ‘’4 more of those bins to do’’
*Saw the photos User: Marcin posted, good progress on the Seed Eco Home ,  starting to look like a ‘’’home’’’!

Rant on Landfill Job
*So ‘’first and foremost’’ i am ‘’quite’’ certain that this could be done in a Spray Tower or Bubble Column type process like that algae Biofilter type thing i saw at that Wastewater Treatment Plant
**When filling the containers back up i snagged the name of the material btw, 4142
*This could probably be cleaned with the Clean in Place “gamma jet” type thing we use for gas stations ‘’’if even that’’’; could just drain, maybe run bleach water through then fill back up (ALL VIA PUMPS) not…this
*Granted grunts and some consumable material is probably cheaper than doing things the right way oof
**It seems they just Flared the gas too ( Gas Flare ) rather than either use it for Power Generation or upgrade it to pipeline spec and inject it into the pipeline grid (I’ll link the paper i saw but it is also ‘’’the most basic type’’’ a “candlestick flare”
*As stated before i think this is just about ‘’’the worst way’’’ to do all this in more ways than one, but I’ll probably document issues that came up, hypotheses as to why, and potential solutions
*I just looked up the material and i was riiiiiiiiiiight, Iron Oxides (potentially others, but that may just be marketing bs), and some sort of “organic binder” which would explain it being decently light and more dirt colored than pure rust
*The smell wasn’t AS BAD as i thought it was.  Still bad, but i would describe it as a mixture of sulfur and the smell of/taste of burnt campfire marshmallows if that makes any sense
**I was expecting rotting dumpster/someone forgot to close the lid and rainwater got in type stuff.  GRANTED it is a “retired” landfill that is “stabilizing” so it isn’t ‘’’as bad’’’ as it was i bet.
*Clings/Tracks like hell though.  I did go to Walmart and get that cheap basic (technically dish-) soap and that got it all off everything well.

Lessons Learned that are more Directly Relevant to OSE
*’’’On a directly relevant to OSE note’’’, this job had me thinking+plotting a lot of “what to pack” / how to optimally staff (re Overstaffing vs Understaffing etc
*Mainly:
**How critical having large and/or many coolers with ice is for jobs in remote locations and/or doing high intensity work and/or in high heat
***I think one bottle of water (or equivalent, re Alternatives to Disposable Water Bottles ) per person per 30 minutes of work MINIMUM is a rule of thumb/regulation to live by
**Labeling of Personal Drinks etc would probably be nice too, that or have individual coolers, didn’t have any PROBLEMS (ie stealing drinks and whatnot) but did have some decent Time Waste from asking around etc
**The impact of having food available and/or proper lunch breaks during long work
***Was getting ’’’very sluggish’’’ and they got sandwiches for everyone from some semi-local place, that+sitting in thr shade with a fan etc didn’t make my sorr muscles better but i was WAY better
***Most bosses will be all “raaaah push through”, and to be fair it may vary case by case but i HIGHLY suspect it could be proven in a Time Work Study etc although even if it doesn’t save time, sure as hell improved morale!
***A Sports Drink can somewhat hold you over but some sort of Meal Replacement Shake would be nice to have too
**Planning+Communication
***Not that going all snobby and making a Lift Plan for the most basic stuff is needed, but there were some cases at the end in the filling process there were occasions where lifting began before the loops for the Big Bag were in the Holder thing (was attached to an excavator in this case, that and a Skid Steer Forklift
***Disputes in Procedure/How to Fix Problems (there wasn’t any ANGER to anything like that, but major frustration and confusion) (this was almost all in relation to the Vac Truck hose clogging
***It gets iffy in terms of Power Dynamics / Nepotism and such, but a more clear Chain of Command would help
***Either in addition to this, or as a more equal alternative, Evidence Based Protocols/Procedures (Standard Operating Procedures and all that) could help. MUST BE based on Evidence+Be Reliable the feild (re Designer User Disconnect and all that)
*Funnels/“Mouseholing” and whatnot being an issue in Emptying Big Bags and for Silos in general
**I saw some archival footage I’ll have to dig for that was about some government study on this and all that
**There are some products that make it basically never happen, so between reducing Tome Waste and just the ‘’’stabbing/hitting with shovels and hammers process’’’ it would be wuite beneficial i bet
***Also they were manually cutting open the bottoms of the bug bags, there are specialized tools if I understand correctly that may be faster
**Importance of Shade and Fans
***We had one of those large orange metal fans and an extension cord
***It worked GREAT at the first box but we couldn’t find a plug in the second one in range
****No extra extension cords, battery powered (or preferably devices that allow for either or) devices, and Extension Cord Routine Inspection Protocols would have prevented this and thus are advisable for ose work
***Shade was a bit sparse/moved all over etc.  Limited “spots” also means not everyone may get it so some “pecking order”, stress, and time wastage+exhaustion issues there
****Those Pop Up Shade Tents (need the proper word) are reasonably cheap, stack well, and work well
***We had one of those on an Atmospheric Storage Tank Cleaning job and it was great
***Also has the advantage of leaving your eyes a bit more adjusted+there being less glare for people doing Confined Space “hole watch” or for looking into pipes mid troubleshooting etc
****Although everyone having a Flashlight/Laser Flashlight on hand can help

9/4/2024
*Guess who’s cleaning out containers filled with Activated Carbon and/or Iron Oxide that are ‘’saturated’’ after doing their job in a Landfill Gas Upgrader ……
*It’s meeeeeeeeeee
*And due to them bring intentionally mysterious i am not 100% prepped (was gonna follow the tips of someone and get some vics vapor rub or some shit/a mask but nah just going in for ‘’the full experience’’ i guess)
*Moderately interesting from an academic standpoint but yeah  ‘’’n a h’’’
*Granted this is the worst job this company does so i have the “this is some bullshit” meter from Luxury Vacation to This Job all calibrated lol
*It’s for the greater good!  Also gotta earn that social credit lol
*Still though I’m gonna hate Landfills ‘’even more now’’!
**Gonna do that hate rant from “I have no mouth but i must scream”
*They are unbolting the hatch and i am getting hints of the smell rip
*Wish me luck and here’s to hoping!

8/25/2024
*Been VERY busy with work recently
**Falling asleep on the floor for a bit after getting home means your Work Life Balance is good…right?
*Not the worst though, learning a ton+making money
*PILE of ideas to add on Wiki (as per usual)
*One i was thinking in regards to Stake Trucks and Securing Items in Trailers/Truckbeds was something like
**Gridfinity But For Pallets ( GBFP , pronounced “gee-bfp” which seems to flow well)
**it worked out okay, but another Underground Storage Tank Cleaning Job which needed
***2x Pressure Washer Hoses
***2x 50 Foot Garden Hoses
***1x Small Gasoline Engine Powered Cold Water Pressure Washer
***2x Safety Cans for spare gasoline
***A “gammajet” / “buttorworth” (or me “that spinny thing” ) basically a Clean In Place / Sootblower type thing on a metal cable you hook up to a pressure washer line and drop into the tank to clean it from the middle
***A sort of jerry rigged pipe with a 90*bend on the top (so it drops down) and a Pressure Washer Nozzle on the bottom so you can jet out any sludge there+the debris that gets dislodged from the gammajet thing
**These smaller things don’t secure ‘’too’’ well with a Ratchet Strap although it did work out eventually ( Cargo Nets may be even better for odd shaped small stuff although we don’t have any if i remember correctly)
**Also in terms of loading/unloading time having premade pallets would be neat
**But in terms of what GBFP would look like think a Plastic Pallet (or maybe a “hat” that goes on top of a pallet so not to waste material making a single use pallet) with Gridfinity / Shadowboard type indentations deep enough to secure the load.  Also maybe D Rings / Eyelets to tie/ratchet strap down the pallet if needed
*ALSO i got an IBM Selectric (Specifically a ‘’beige’’ IBM Correcting Selectric II) and some old blowtorchez (2 Alcohol, one Kerosene/Gasoline (sadly probably the latter) )
**Selectric works GREAT
***may need to be cleaned+re oiled/greased (neat Info from digging on that) and get a new production ribbon
***Stencil Mode on normal Wax Paper didn’t seem to make a stencil good enough for a Mimeograph so further experimentation needed there
***Custom Type Elements / Typeballs / “Golfballs” can be made too (even for windings/comic sands/papyrus etc lol) with a 3D printer (and maybe 3D Print to Metal Part Workflows so that’s ANOTHER thing on the to-print list
*That’s about it though, already past 2 PM but I’m going to try and get some wiki work done on my laptop today (this and most recent edits have been on my iphone so a bit limited) if not though i hope this update helps!

6/5/2024
*Essentially going on a road trip for some training today, passenger in company vehicle so got some time to burn

5/10/2024
*So i am starting up another job soon
*IE Probably back to the "Checking During Lunch Break / Occasional Contributions on Weekends etc
*I'll keep you all posted

4/29/2024
*Today I Mainly did
*Finishing up info on Optical Disc Stuff
*All that is left of the window of tabs is ~10 or so links (Mix of papers and niche Wikipedia pages) that can get chucked into my data buffer page for now, a pile of videos i'll probably pick the best out of and put those into the Eric's (Planned) Data Storage Ecosystem Workflow Page's External Links Section
**Most are youtube shorts by the same creator so that should be quicker to jot down
*Do have the medical stuff to do tomorrow, but yeah should still get some work in

4/28/2024
Pre-Log Notes
*Main To-Do's for Today:
**Order the Oil for my 3D Printer, Black ink for the Disc Publisher, and Some Polypropylene Jewel Cases / Storage Stuff for Them (not much, but just enough for storing music cds neatly, and storing a few test discs if i make those)
**Kick that one person causing drama off the discord again
***(They keep on making alternative accounts, and do this odd bit where they act normal for a bit then bring up the same drama (something to do with Precious Plastic, i archived the conversation somewhere via screenshots in case, i tried to get details/deescalate, but it's just a mess))
***I'd love to hear your "take", as i haven't met him personally yet, but if i remember correctly Dave Hakkens visited FeF way back?  Granted old memories and a quick meeting of someone isn't a proper way to really "know someone" and whatnot, but between the bits i know about him / how he behaves in the groupchat and whatnot vs the other guy who is going around/stirring shit up  without really trying to address the issue, also posted some anti-vaccine "documentary" on precious plastic's discord during the height of it all which i mean if someone is anti-vaccine but isn't rude about it i can work with them i guess, but the kind of "CABAL of people trying to ELIMINATE POLIO" type stuff isn't conducive to teamwork i guess lol
***I'm rambling, but TLDR problems occuring there i'll have to go clean up
**Figure out where the [eForFuel]] project is based and try and contact them (i think it was germany or so, about 7:22pm or so there now, so not today probably)
*A bit more of documenting what is currently in tabs / getting those loose ends tied down
*I don't want to get too bogged down in all that / reading+minor edits and whatnot on the recent edits y'all have done, but once i get the main to-do's done i'll probably do that and try and catch up on-discord a bit more

Log
*Today I Mainly did
**Digging through chat history looking for all the various alt accounts
**Took some screenshots, but DiscordChatExporter is probably more efficient, so got that downloaded/was troubleshooting that
***As per Discord General Voice Chat and Links Transcript it seems someone already has worked with it (that or a PILE of copy+pasting oof) (Checked real quick and it was User: Cryptogoth
**Anywho i made a list of all the names, made a new mod role so hopefully if/when i am not there others can temporarily mute them until i can get on it (without risking a Priviledge Escalation Attack or anything, not that we are some high risk environment, it's a server for discussing OSE stuff, but especially when i am still sorting out backing it up and whatnot i don't feel too comfy with large amounts of people being able to mess with more core aspects of it yet
**Digging on Optical Disc Jewel Cases + Optical Disc Jewel Case Storage Box
***Was planning on doing that today, might send it out tonight so it is processed quicker, but saving it for the morning when i can think things through better is probably the wiser thing to do
**I have a drug test / physical (latter is mainly to be sure new hires can use the (fancy term is Negative Pressure Respirators iirc) masks when working with especially nasty stuff without lungs getting messed up/not being able to breathe enough) for that new job i got on this upcoming tuesday, also need to get any last bits of paperwork all sorted out.
*Also trying to get sleep schedule back to waking up dark and early
*Either way it is way too late at night, and my brain is a bit shot right now, but that's all i've been working on today

4/25/2024
*Today I Mainly did
*Finished out documenting the EForFuel stuff
*Put a bunch of the links i dug into from the Journal Club Hangout into Eric's Data Buffer Page
*Documented OpenSprinkler and made a category for Irrigation to put it in
**Not too much of this on-wiki yet.  Would this be of use for the Lawn Stuff it seems like (at least from edits) you are working on User: Marcin ?
**Seeding Grass / Soil Conditioner / Grass Mat and all that
***Sidenote i don't want to be pissing people off with my category making, but would one for Landscaping / Lawncare stuff be good?
*I finally tracked down that diagram i like for Technology Readiness Level and saved it on my pc + uploaded it to the wiki that way i don't need to hunt it down
**May make a little stickynote sized printout to put next to the pinned up mess of macro key cheat sheets and whatnot on that corkboard thing in front of my pc
*Still kicking that can of make this all look nice down the road but yeah
*Guessing around 6 Hours or so? (Granted not on ultra-pertinent stuff or cad for now!)

4/21/2024
*Need to clean all this up / fill in gap sheeeeesh
*Anyhow Friday did a job interview type thing for a company, and may have a few others lined up soon.
*As of now branching out of electrical to see if there is anything that is a better fit, although money is money at the end of the day!
*I watched that videocall thing on User: Marcin]] 's YouTube the other day (and i think posted some stuff on here about it, although between that and comments cleaning that up is a thing to do as well probably)
*Either way though it sounds like the internship / larger hands-on stuff is happening at FeF soon so that's exciting!
*I might shoot you an email tomorrow marcin, but either way i'd love to hear more about all this.
*My main concern is i don't want to get all tied down into a job or so just in time for OSE stuff to really get going (and not just a 1 week camp  either!)
*Also i hope i'm not boring/annoying people with my optical disc / data hoarding spam lol
*I need to order some of that oil for my 3d printer's bearings as they seemed to be getting dry.  All the local hardware shops had when i checked last weekend or so was a bunch of WD-40 / PB-Blaster / 3-in-1 or CLP Oil (Which as per some bits i was reading really doesn't do any of those good)
**I could have sworn that the Ace Hardware had some "Machine Oil" or "Sewing Machine Oil" or whatever they called it but saw none of that, probably just going to buy the prusa stuff online to be safe (after turning everything upside down one last time to see if the one that came with the printer isn't around here)
*Once i get that back in working order though i can finish up the Ikea Lack Enclosure stuff and/or make those Scale Models you were mentioning
*Anywho though getting late, i'll add hours+clean things up later

3/9/2024
*Went hunting for all sorts of stuff today
**Main thing was going to Ace Hardware after last afternoon's mostly unproductive search at Home Depot
**Went there, took a while but found what i needed, went to checkout and they were like ah okay what are the part numbers "t h e    p a r t  n u m b e r s?!?" so then i did the same thing in reverse
**Also got a benzomatic adjustable - hose torch thing which will probably be better than the slightly charred disposable candle lighter i have been using (along with preventing  the stringing itself via that filament dryer)
**All in all though my main conclusion is I NEED to print some gridfinity stuff and/or get bins (either buy some or hoard those square-with a black plastic rectangular lid-clear plastic food containers that almonds/peanuts/etc come in) to have my own mini-hardware store for stuff like that
***Will need to find good sources for screws and all that, granted it was via an advertisement/endorsement, but "simplybearings.com" seems good, especially for more obscure bearings
***Standardization / Parts Reduction in terms of screws is also a must, as short of Drywall Screws hunting down the exact kind you need is a pain
**Having a makerspace with a Parts Vending Machine would make this nice too, could even be a store/service too not just for on-site use
*Went to Home Depot afterwards to finish up  the trip there that started the day before (was in a rush due to dinner plans, so stopped after screws)
**I got 2x of those concrete pavers and a pack (4 i think?) of those exercise room foam tile things
***They didn't have the bonded foam, or any other smaller vibration isolation specific thing (although more expensive/less squishy but potentially higher impact rated tiles that seemed like bonded shredded tires or some other non-PU Foam type elastomer thing, idk if it was latex or what) so i improvised with those
***Will probably test that out after i print out all the brackets for the Ikea Lack Enclosure
**Need to put in an order tomorrow for more filament and some other things
***I might get one of those 20 Gal Propane to 1 Gal Propane Tank Refiling Adapters or whatever the term would be
****I want to read up more to make sure they don't fill it to the max and do the correct rule where there is that ullage space for vapors and whatnot
****Also they sold a sensor that can be used after screwing off the torch hose, but i know larger tanks can get a "tree" manifold for a lanter, a stove, and more etc all on that one tank via hoses breaking off that "tree"
*****I want to see if they make those, or more accurately a 3 way or "y" type 2 way adapter so i can get pressure readings and use the torch with no fiddling with tighter valves then re-testing them" after small torch usage, although storing with things off may be better due to small leaks, could go proper and make a metal cage lol)
*While i was in Ace Hardware got an email chain from marcin and User: Alexa about discord being on fire a bit, so i went in there and kicked the bots/deleted their comments and whatnot.  Need to see if that reported them or i need to do that manually
**Also met Alexa properly, talked about stuff, and gave her Admin Permissions (one or two other people too, i need to check a few others to make sure they aren't that one guy coming back on, although seem to be playing nice in the sandbox for now? so this doesn't happen again
*For the time being i can probably be on-discord a bit more, i just tend to get sucked into the brainstorming / helping people side of all that, and the sheer information flow gets overwhelming as per that rant i put on here somewhere
*Also did you get my emails marcin or no?  Granted pile of stuff happening and my non-business email with all those subscriptions has a number of unreads i do not wish to disclose so i get stuff getting buried lol either way i would appreciate if you look for those and i can resend if need be
**GRANTED FeF Fence Craziness is a priority and all that, still hope that's going well sheeeesh
*Anywho maybe only about an hour or two today
*almost 2 (or wait i guess 3, with daylight savings time...) local time oof

3/8/2024
Pre-Log Notes
*Probably going to head out for screws, and maybe the concrete paver+foam thing for dampening at Home Depot and/or Ace Hardware depending on availability
*Currently have a dual color filament loaded (for a little RC Car Stand Thing for my Younger Brother's Car (Keeps the wheels from developing a weak squashed point in longer bits of storage...something Russia has apparently neglected to do in actual tires!) ), need to do a final "so what model are we doing" (and figure out what hardware if any it needs), go get stuff
*THEN i want to get that print going and done (that or remove that filament)
**Then probably go back to Marble Polyterra PLA i have ~0.5 of a spool left of, make some brackets, place an amazon order for 2x more spools of it, and maybe some more black spools
*Get into "print farm mode" where if i'm home it's printing, get those cranked out
*See how it prints then regroup from there

3/7/2024
Pre-Log Notes
*Unsure on the BOM category bit, as it may be of use to have a subcategory for the "meta" stuff (ie not just a list of BOMs for Builds), but it will do for now
*Put the Ukraine stuff from yesterday onto the Talk:Ukraine War Reporting Page
*Put the Carpet Stuff on Eric's Data Buffer Page

3/6/2024
*Today I Mainly did
**Usual minor wiki work (Adding Categories to Stuff, Reading Recent Edits)
*ALSO:
*Laid Out Plans for if/when i finish up Drywall and all that
*Documented the Jobsite Organization/Teams i saw and thoughts on all that (Re: Talk:17 Trades )
*Dug Back Up / Skimmed and Sorted all the stuff i have watched/read on Ukraine War Reporting in preparation to add all that
*Looked up some carpet terms, got some link spam
*Guessing ~5 Hours

2/26/2024
*Got some stuff done today
*Turned out i had a window of stuff on the Speed Benchy stuff to finish up
*Watched some people finally doing multi-material prints on the XL (short of slicer not allowing for multiple wipe towers for filaments that don't bond, and pulling ultra-flexible filaments through the Reverse-Bowden Tube system, everything seemed to work great which was nice to see
*Few other videos there
*One mentioned a fork of FreeCAD called Ondesel or something, need to document that, more os than OnShape but still a bit odd, seems better though, and despite being semi-irrational it seems Angus from Maker's Muse has a similar issue (sidenote i need to dig for that flash drive with a...certain software, educational version of course, on it somewhere)
*Also communicated with a few OSHW projects i saw for whatever that's worth
*I'll probably write an email, and granted i don't know if all of you at FeF are working on the jobsite or in the lab all day or what, but a videocall or something to go over what all is happening, and discuss timelines for the near future and all that would be nice!  Email chain can work (or edit/talk section chain), but it's been a good while since those video conferences!
*Either way it's ~1:00 local time, late night owl energy hit did a pile of stuff then crash has been hitting for last 1hr/1.5hr but had to get stuff condensed and this all written down
*May check the discord in these next few days, but although amazing for networking/brainstorming that tends to either lead to HIGH "flow" feeling networking idea sharing brainstorming craziness and/or me getting overwhelmed and mentally shutting down, both of which can derail my day's work to an extent (although the latter is amazing ) ;  this primate brain is not meant to handle the totality of the collective consciousness using the World Wide Web moreso just forage and occasionally hunt/scavenge in the african savanna yet here we are lol) (if i ever make a page on this it will probably be The Existential Horror of Large Discord Servers or something, it's like a mix of those "zoom out" videos (ie your location zoomed out to the farthest map of the known universe etc) and the common scene of the "runaway conveyor" and the workers getting more and more overwhelmed, really odd but also good in a way?)
**Main things of concern, are that one guy may be on some "alt account" harassing people again, so have to do the ol say why i'm banning them again, do so, delete the toxic stuff (it gets hard since they do occasionally have decent hardware work so have to do the equivalent of having a human rights abuser as an ally to be able to do good things goddamn )
**Also see who all is there (probably some new people) (i also need to properly say hi to and meet all the new on-wiki people; hullo to whoever's reading this at least :3 )
*All in all decent days work, but still balancing all the things
*Hard to determine exact hours, putting 8 will probably work, granted hour log is still broken and bigger things to deal with i guess on that front

2/25/2024
*Did some work forgot to log, need to fix this later
*I also when looking into the Tub Install or whatever recent edit that was i was able to view the Google Drive folder with all the Media (mainly photos) and all that
**thought it was just the tub install, ended up viewing all the videos, and viewing all the recent then skimming more and more for the photos upon realizing how giant the folder is lol
**Did get a good idea of what all is going on though, and left some comments
**Some of the Pictures would probably be good on-wiki in my opinion too, makes things more tangible for the passerby
***Although much of the photos are more a log / "engineering footage" (i got to see the tools of choice and the cursed looking, but intriguing cordless tool battery brand adapters
*It was a few days ago but went to home depot for some things, checked materials so planning for the Downdraft Table ,  materials to Laser Cut etc
*Also started the Ikea Lack Enclosure a bit ago
*Fix the order/add details when i fix this

2/24/2024
Pre-Work Notes
*Was updating some software and it said there wasn't sufficient space.  I was thinking, "oh that's odd, (checked through folders, didn't find much) let me run WinDerStat
**I end up finding that Plantout Video (Both the raw video in which was a few GBs
**1gb for the original
**87.1gb for the final video
**Maybe i didn't compress it, or something
**Either way getting that off my Laptop is probably something to do
**I can probably put it on my 1tb external hardrive i use for photos backup and whatnot although transfer time both there, and back to get it to marcin or whoever back from there, is one issue of that plan
*I think email would collapse at the mere thought of that much data (although i'll double check real quick) but is there a way i can get it to you User: Marcin or directly to the wiki?
*Either way i'll dig into that a bit more, then get tabs put down to continue the 22's goals

Actual Log
*Can pretty much call all of the tab documenting, short of drywall stuff ( at least for on-laptop ie not on-smartphone stuff oof ) handled
*There are 2 windows left, this one which is just drywall stuff and this tab, then the other with a PILE of the recent edits by you all all opened up and half read
**Reading through the edits/new pages, adding category links to a lot of the Seed Eco Home ones is probably a 1/2-full day of this computer type work
*But yeah finished up the Coal Upgrading in the context of Ultra Clean Charcoal Fuel as well as the Gas Turbine link spam ( at least for the time being bwahahahah )
*Jokes aside though getting to a point where i am actually surfing the wave not frantically paddling behind it !
*Only ~3 Hours Today

2/22/2022
*Getting tabs condensed into my Eric's Data Buffer Page thing pre-documenting more tips i've learned / materials i have seen and whatnot pre-finishing drywall stuff then basically seeing what needs help and working there
**I found a Duplicate Tab Detector Chrome Extension as when i  "restore tabs" sometimes it makes duplicates in the separate windows

2/16/2024
*Too much complex chemistry and too little snacks; my brain is frying.  Going to get some food, get the links dumped and get back on topic lol

2/15/2024
*Gradually getting rid of tabs, and documenting all the tips/tricks i picked up from work
*Mostly done with all the Drywall stuff short of some quick pages, documenting the products i saw, and documenting those cool Cordless Drywall Sanders (Basically a Random Orbital Sander but attached to a vacuum (similar to the "wand" on a standard vacuum), so instead of using one of those sanding pads on a pole and getting coated in dust you use that, also works faster benefitting rapid construction OSE plans to do
*Partially got pulled from Magnesium Oxide Panels back down the rabbit hole of Brine Mining and all that but trying not to get bogged down in that for now
*Otherwise did some usual reading other people's work + organizational edits and such
*Only ~4 Hours Today

2/13/2024
*Odd Note:  Might have been due to deleted cookies or a chrome update or something, but my Enhanced Spellcheck was messed up, so probably have had a decent chunk of typos in recent edits of mine; another thing to go back and finish out i guess
*Added some more Drywall Stuff
*Got the Drywall Finish Levels bit done, granted started down another rabbit hole of all their various tools
*People i was with on that commercial job mainly did manual everything short of a corded drill for mixing, the Powered Drywall Sanders (The pole mounted ones with Vacuum Dust Extraction and all that, not just a Random Orbital Sander ,  although those are nice too!  Many also come with a ring of led lights around it which can supposedly air with seeing what you are working on
**Although seeing things with Final Lighting is a good QC step, did that at the commercial site, minor odd bit to address is how that ties into the ballet of sorts that construction is
*Also dumped a tab pile's worth of chemical types/names into my Eric's Data Buffer Page thing so my Laptop can have more ram for more pressing matters lol
*Also read the recent edits and all that as per usual
*That's about it
* ~2 Hours

2/11/2024
*Got Caught Back up with Wiki Recent Changes and People's Logs
**(Sidenote, i wil try and reply/catch up with all of you and maybe check the discord (can become a time sink and mental stressor oof, the superobject of the collective contiousness of the entire online world and the speed needed to keep track of all the channels vs my mere human brain)
**Also need to document the projects by the YouTube Channel "Hyperspace Pirate".  I sent their Shells to Pure CO2 Gas Kiln project to User: Marcin a bit ago during lunch break via email, but documenting their whole HVAC Saga to be able to make LN2 at Home Scale all DIY / as Appropriate Matrerial based as possible has been REALLY neat (Even made their own Ethylene (RE: Ethanol to Ethylene ) and recently Ethane , as well as the Aforementioned CO2 from Shells, which ties into Marcin's Solar Concrete stuff!)
*FINISHED CTIS
*Added my experience to Class to Lab Time Ratio for Tech School (i can clean it up/get precise dates if need be)
*Added some to the Digital Twinning Page (May have not understood the context, so was a bit vauge, was this in the contect of OBI houses, or in general?  Either way VERY interesing topic!  Sounds like an overwhelming level of integration hell for me, but not a task for a single person, seeing something like that come together though, especially if FOS...
*Added some Categories to Stuff
*Dumped some old links and stuff on my data buffer page thing Eric's Data Buffer Page
*Mainly:
**On the Availability of Carbide/Diamond Blades for Recipricating Saws and/or Cordless Bandsaws
**Exchange-a-Blade (Both on what a Bimetallic Blade is (TLDR: High Speed Steel tip, Tool Steel for the rest) and their trade in recycling program
**Documenting hearing about those Milwaukee NITRUS CARBIDE™ Blades pore-grabbing more information (Great for demo/renovation, as if you hit a nail or some masony hidden in/behind what you are cutting the blade can still work or at least not self destruct )  Need to get hard data, and try and figure out what it is, one would think a patent would be there, unless Trade Secrets can get around that?  That and/or it's just goofy branding for Tungsten Carbide (A la crappy LED Light being sold as a BIONIC LIGHT^tm c r in some As Seen on TV type ad)
*Also documented Metal Stock Channel Names (Heard "L Channel" when looking at commerial ceeling rafters at one sight and got a bit confused, now i know!  Also the generic name for Unistrut)
*Got into some drywall stuff when documenting some YouTube stuff
**Between that, and the products i have seen the great people we were working with on that one commercial site, i can probably add a bit to all that
*Post Dinner Crash is Hitting though, so that's all for Today i'm off to go sleep lol
* ~6 Hours or So?

Revision as of 13:47, 23 August 2025

Basics

  • This Page goes over User:Eric 's dev work for OSE
  • Also has a sort of "captains log" of their work / daily thoughts
  • Not always consistent, so double check their Contributions Page for more specifics on projects/edits
  • Hours Logger has been locking me out for the last few days. The error code/message is below. I tried logging out then back in (also added OSE to a list of "sites that can use cookies" in the google chrome settings)
"Forbidden (403) CSRF verification failed. Request aborted. You are seeing this message because this site requires a CSRF cookie when submitting forms. Hours

HintLightbulb.png Hint: I added 27 for April and 9 for May so far. Any more?-mj

(The hour thing is broken, as the bit in the "Basics" section states)

Eric Log

8/19/2025

  • Finished up cleaning a Dissolved Air Floatation unit today and writing down my thoughts:
    • Up until the end i was ALMOST going to compliment it for Design for Cleaning being ALMOST there
    • Was using a Chicago Hose to liquify/break up chunks of the Oil / Grit slop in the bottom of this thing
    • It DID have a 3 Inch Camlock fitting at the bottom of each of the two hoppers so that was FAR easier than hauling a hose up the stairs/onto the sort of permanent Scaffolding around the funnel shaped DAF unit
      • Sidenote, bit to be desired in terms of OSHA compliance (Toe Rails, flush with the wall, etc) but we made it work
    • Towards the end though not being able to turn the Augers (which turns out haven’t been used in ages and the motor is broken…) made pushing that LAST bit of slop out of the flights in the augers a real pain
    • All in all though it wasn’t too bad. Was either Aluminum or Stainless Steel so it cleaned up real well and all the slop fell off for the most part, even with just a Chicago hose
      • Although some nooks and such retained a bit of gunk, although they supposedly didn’t need it to be spotless etc
        • For OSE Operations though, drain+clean to a near-spotless level every so often is HIGHLY recommended, prevents buildup+makes the job easier
      • Also some central manifold area or something had valves (clogged with debris) and no drail valve/fittings etc so bit of a mess of hauling the hose + it getting clogged due to suction loss on that long run etc
        • A newer coworker mentioned some sort of attachment called a “Fluidizer” / “Liquidizer”, used Bleed Air and/or water to keep stuff flowing
      • Worth looking into, i was pondering something similar
      • Had that same issue with me pushing through the job then crashing at the end (Energy Reserves all shot due to drinking Water but no Gatorade etc, if the company ain’t gonna get it i gotta

7/31/2025

Background/Thoughts

  • Good day doing stuff around the shop
  • Had me thinking continuous improvement type thoughts
  • Having a Days Since Last Work Incident Counter type deal but for “Days Since _Truck Number_ Was Last Washed” or using that for tracking various Preventative Maintenance tasks would be of use too
    • Could also integrate this into a Kanban Board type deal too
  • It had some privacy concerns to consider (ESPECIALLY when not done in a work environment but at home/in an Intentional Community type deal (ie don’t want to accidentally create a no-privacy Environment of Control
    • BUT i want to make something like a Kanban Board (or even make it a Map on the Wall of the local area etc, or at least frequent locations
    • You have little markers for people employed there or at LEAST vehicles etc so you can see who is where without having to ask around

7/29/2025

Background

  • Last night went down a MAJOR rabbit hole in terms of diesel stuff
  • Also finally got around to watching something on the original (military) Babington Burner / Airtronics Burner + checked in with the company’s page (seems like they still are active in the military/humanitarian sphere, with things like Ration Heaters / Field Kitchens that comply with the Single Fuel Standard etc
  • Also looked a bit into Burn Barrels / Burn Pits particularly in the concept of “Disaster/Expeditionary Waste Management”
    • ie if not Cancer Fumes generating burn pits, what?
  • Found an Off The Shelf Electric fan boosted burn barrel
    • Also adjacent was the concept of Incinerating Toilets
    • TLDR though is i have some link spam on all that to put somewhere

7/28/2025

Background

  • Just got done squeegeeing out Hydro Test water from the bottom of some giant (supposedly new?) AST
    • It had the cable suspension ceiling rather than Low/High Legs so was roomy+nothing to dodge/get tangled on
    • OTHER THAN THAT THOUGH 😮‍💨
    • Was humid as hell in there and pretty damn toasty
    • Also NOT designed for cleaning (was NOT Center Sump or even an inverted cone with annular sumps
      • Was a bunch of uneven plates, not really level, didn’t DRAIN into any of the sumps so was just chasing puddles all over the damn place oof
      • Also i am unsure how much pushing water around helps vs letting the vac hose do it’s job
        • If an area has dried up it helps 100%, but otherwise it was just pushing the tock up the hill/working to be busy rather than efficiently
      • Even if not motorized/attached to heavy equipment, having something like the [[Super Sopper]{ or even a Mop+Wringer Bucket with a vac hose in it may have worked better
  • Tired Venting aside though more learning by seeing there+MAY have some time to burn later today via edits and whatnot

Work

  • Adding more to OMEx
  • May start writing up on Diesel Injection Tech
    • Saw some paper on VERY high injection pressures, wanted to compare that vs current state of things vs low tech mechanical plunger etc

7/22/2025

Background

  • Currently waiting out thunder+lightning at the end of an LES Job
  • Sidenote while it still involves too much climbing over piping, and we don’t have enough ports/manways etc (ie 100% not Design for Cleaning ) this one tank isn’t AS bad
    • Still smells like old rancid Used Cooking Oil ..:since that’s what was in the tank…but cleaning up okay
    • Also since Oil-Water separation is ‘’’what LES does’’’ we can dispose of PCW etc onsite, and have infinite water (due to no disposal Costs]] concerns unlike most jobs (hence much more squeegeeing + pressure washing)
    • Basically just using a Firehose / “Chicago Hose” to loosen up the solids+push all the slop into the Vac Hose
    • Vac Truck Clogging/Breaking down was a limiting factor as per usual so making sure the hose is getting some air, as well as doing a proper Pre-Trip Inspection is worth it’s weight in good as always
  • Also i REALLY gotta get OSE Apprenticeship and/or job applications in
    • Probably will need to burn my other week off and/or make a weekend or two more than two days so i can have a few days to crash+recharge, then Properly productive days (that one week i took recently got a ton of stuff done)
    • Even if i don’t go to the apprenticeship, i want to go to thay “initial meet up / check in” type day thing if possible
    • Also i saw marcin posted a walkaround (albeit with messed up audio!) so that was nice to see done
  • ANYWHO
  • ✨Time for some DME Link Spam✨

6/24/2025

  • Currently on an ( Atmospheric Storage Tank ) Tank Cleaning Job
    • Drove in, did Site Safety Orientation and all that + checked into the hotel + bought food for the week yesterday
    • Today we set up all out gear and are now in the Hurry Up and Wait phase
      • (Although i’m paid by the hour so i’m not complaining!)
    • It’s about a 45 Foot Diameter Denatured Ethanol Tank
    • Had to run a PILE of hose to basically go across the whole damn tank farm to get water for our Pressure Washer hence me putting that note down in Design for Cleaning lol
    • As with most tank farms they write in the side of the tanks
      • What’s in It
      • NFPA Fire Diamond
      • What Tank Coatings are Used etc
      • Neat stuff but they had a tank of “generic gasoline additive - mmc 092ca” then a SEPARATE TANK of “ Chevron Techron “ so that settles the question of if gas is TRULY different
        • Although still researching Fuel Additives to see if there is that much difference between the blendstocks/Dosing Rates etc
        • BUT one of the arguments cited is “it all comes from the same place” etc, but it seems the Tanker Truck Loading Rack is where the blending equipment is, not at the Gas Station itself
          • So almost like a Soda Fountain
          • Notwithstanding most gas stations having a Diesel Tank, Regular Gas Tank, Premium Gas Tank, and SOMETIMES an Ethanol Free Tank
            • The “mid grade gasoline” is just like a chocolate-vanilla swirl cone, it’s a mix of the regular and premium
  • Also family came in over the weekend so between full house, and hanging out with the little babies/watching them etc not much work got done (unless you count Lego Duplo construction…)
  • Anywho that’s what all i’ve been doing/thinking
  • Assuming work doesn’t go long today (Jynxing it, but HOPEFULLY if the Airgapping / LOTO people, and the Mobile Vapor Recovery Unit take too long we will just push Tank Entry to tomorrow as we are on the books till Friday if i remember correctly
    • There is a non-zero chance of pushing till 1700 est ish though so here’s to hoping
  • My laptop post-ssd install is all confused as to if to use the ssd or the hdd (with windows and all that on it) for booting so DESPITE EVERYTHING WORKING AND BEING DETECTED it’s trying to do windows auto repair and all sorts of nonsense
  • Assuming i make it i’ll be using a hacked together setup of my Steam Deck , a USB C Adapter , and a webcam and whatnot. Going to put it in Linux Desktop mode and go (hopefully!)
  • I’ll keep y’all posted though!

6/18/2025

  • On Vacation from Work This Week
  • Mainly for hanging out with some family sweeping through town
  • Although also cleaning up the house/my room pre-that
  • Also trying to get things done due to being busy with work (Fixing Up My Car, Relaxing etc)
  • Also will try and get some OSE Work and MAYBE some job applications in
  • As per usual though trying to do a TON of things at once so may not do all of them
  • Burnout from my current job was getting pretty bad, that combined with physical labor of some of the jobs (Shoveling Sludge Wearing a Tyvek in Florida Heat etc) did not make for a creative coordinated me lol
  • Had a few days to relax though so my brain is back in the mood for doing stuff
  • Started some today, currently catching up on Perin (YouTube Channel) ‘s Videos, then i’ll try and get caught up with User: Marcin ‘s videos
  • Also currently printing Candle Molds to make DIy/OS Replacement Candles for my UCO Candle Lantern

Log Part

Page List

Summary

  • Woke up, had breakfast, got some 3d prints going, got caffeine in my system+tried out Rebuild Inc. (Video Game) (by the same people behind “Plauge Inc” and “Rebel Inc” games
  • Then watched
    • Adam Something had a think piece on Maglev Trains
      • I think the issue is moreso Proprietary Designs being useless once the Gadget-Bagn company goes defunct, rather than still being maintainable+upgradable IF THEY WERE OPEN SOURCE
      • Also Critical Minerals use in the rails instead of…Steel and Rocks (or Concrete for Ballastless Track and things like wires for Rail Electrification etc but you get my gist
  • This Fascinating Video on a New Neutrino Detector
    • Good overall video aesthetic too so take note on that (Short of the Sponsorships 😡)
    • Sidenote i thought it would be detecting them from Cosmic Rays etc…but no they are shooting a particle beam THROUGH THE EARTH, then measuring in in another town inside a former Underground Gold Mine
      • Sidenote person they interviewed seemed like a MAJOR expert in Mining etc, seems they were using Drill and Blast mining, then Rock Bolts , mesh, and Shotcrete
        • The limitations of the Headframe (Mining) in terms of getting equipment INTO the actual mine itself (said they disassembled just about everything except the tires, as those couldn’t be cut/folded up!) was especially interesting
        • Also sounded like whoever was the power that be basically sold everything for parts pre-them acquirring it so it wasn’t AS straightforward as one would think
        • Also interesting consideration of Landmark Value / Historical Value of the old Headframe being a driving part of design, nice from a Community Involvement / justice perspective
    • ANYWHO
    • Then watched the latest video by Perun (YouTube Channel) on Hardened Aircraft Shelters and related Defense Economics (Field of Study) topics, especially after Ukraine’s “Operation Spider Web” (Cheap FPV Drones/Loitering Munitions taking out Strategic Bombers (albeit ancient soviet / “russian” ones, but still)
    • Then watched the latest video by Patrick Kelly (YouTube Channel) on the History of the Pharmaceutical Industry and in particular Insulin. This one was on the rise of Biotechnology firms and was HEAVILY based (as they pointed out) on the 2011 Book Genentech: The Beginnings of Biotech (Book)
    • Went from there to catching up on The Thought Emporium (YouTube Channel) ‘s Videos (in particular the Genetic Engineering]] ones, although also a neat one on a type of Slime Mold and it’s interesting pathfinding and other behaviors
    • Watched a video by Just Have a Think (YouTube Channel) on Spent Lithium Ion Battery Recycling via a novel method. Supposedly neutral solution used, and otherwise effective
      • As per the USCSB on scaling risks, my spidey senses were tingling when the self powering via a Primary Cell like effect to “speed up the reaction” was mentioned, Reactivity Risks !!!🚨, but if that isn’t the case that may be a VERY promising method and i will try and document it (as well as the high TRL companies mentioned in there, on wiki on a Battery Recycling page
    • Then Watched Zack Freedman ‘s video tour of the Rock Mountain RepRap Fair
      • All sorts of cool tech+projects mentioned which i will hopefully document on-wiki
  • Along with periodic print starts and misc things that was most of the day
  • Just now started catching up on User:Marcin ‘s Recent Videos, re Eric’s Post Meeting Comments
  • Gonna go check my 3D Printer, should be the last of the UCO Candle Lantern 3D Printed Molds for Candlemaking (originally was going to make 3, issues with printing too many of a mirrored side lead to it now being 5 molds total
      • Sidenote How to Mirror a Part in a Slicer is a page i can make real quick to save others the time looking it up/getting frustrated if they are anything like me
        • While i am grateful for the free desifn, not following the best protocol for posting files to a sharing site, only one half (had to mirror myself), not too much settings or material info etc
  • All in all though checking all that then it’s off to bed for me
  • Rinse and Repeat for the most part tomorrow short of some chores etc

5/8/2025

Update on what all has been going on

  • Thought it was going to be get back Friday from the trip, then decon gear and go home but some stuff went down
  • Was some surprise stuff over the weekend which probably could have been a 2hr Job but due to some surprise (at least to us, unsure if the customer was trying to see how far they could push it) it was a Fuel Dock not a “ Maintenance Dock
    • I don’t know if this is akin to “no loitering” or something where they want more people (and thus money) flowing through that dock but that was all really odd
    • Anywho that two hour job turned into waiting then driving to a whole other dock and all that jazz
  • Monday was a Tank Cleaning
    • Main focus was the Steam Based Tank Heater Coils (basically just piping) in the Waste Cooking oil tank they needed to get cleaned up pre-inspecting/working on them
    • Wasn’t TOO bad, but a bit too “fast and loose” for Confined Space Work (at least to all the Refinery/Fuel Farm type jobs that are all high protocol, almost obnoxiously safe)
    • Deconning gear from that took up about half of Tuesday, not too much else going on
      • Granted as with the Landfill Job, that smell is really hard to get out of stuff, further research in that needed
    • Passenger right now on the way to another Tank Cleaning Job, although i may swap in like i did friday mid all those Passive Exoskeleton edits
  • It was largely due to people rushing the deconning process of the Pressure Washer Hose (which having a Hose Washer in front of/inline with the Hose Reel would be nice for) but the Caustic Degreaser etched/messed with the Aluminum a bit
    • Granted it may not even have been properly Anodized , but yeah that’s a thing to be on the lookout for (although from an Engineering Controls perspective if you don’t use nasty fuels like Heavy Fuel Oil , Don’t let your tanks/lines get too nasty in terms of Sludge/Coke Buildup due to proper design and frequent maintainance, Caustic Degreaser may not even be needed really

Plan

  • I may start writing out a script for an Eric Lotze OSE Apprenticeship Application
    • I also intended to do it this Monday on paper, but i MAY be able to do it on mobile in the car now, but apply for some Time Off for the initial meetup/seeing how people mesh aspect of things
  • Plotting how i would head out there and pricing and whatnot too is another aspect
    • Flying is probably more expensive (also a good bit more Carbon Intensive, although with me not being in some Private Jet, and averaging it out per seat, and the alternative being personal ICE car, that isn’t too big of a concern for me , although i do see that side of it, Electrified (High Speed) Rail sadly ain’t an option yet
  • Driving could let me bring my tools and some stuff like that
    • Hotels get pricey, and can probably do it in one go, but again need to just plan all that out
    • Estimate Gas Used too
    • I’ll plug it into google maps and see but how long the drive would be and all that would be a bit to plan as well
  • It’s 3x 1hr Videos but i could catch up on what User: Marcin has been posting on YouTube

4/29/2025

  • On day 2 of an Out of Town Tank Cleaning
  • Learning some interesting bits:
    • API used to specify 10 Year Empty+Clean+Inspect Intervals for Atmospheric Storage Tanks
      • Industry wined, so if i remember correctly it is now determined by the estimated lifetime of the floor coating?
      • Either way some places tried to push to a 20 year interval, this tank was about 13 Years since it was last opened up and had about 2in of sludge or so
    • Also supposedly most tanks don’t have more than 2-3 Manways. Having 4 makes it WAY nicer (faster ventilation, some daylight, etc) so good Design for Servicing type thing to note
    • Also this one is a conical center sump which is nice (albeit not as nice as a small jet fuel tank i did, that site had it right (Concrete Berms, none of this gravel/dirt+MAYBE A geomembrame type nonsense
  • Staying in a hotel, not going to do it now but i do have some thoughts on “what makes a good hotel” (not in a luxury way, but like all the little annoyances to avoid/neat systems to make cleaning easier for staff etc) but i’ll have to write all that down at another time
  • Anywho heading back Friday so most wiki work and ESPECIALLY the video application are delayed until this weekend
    • Did get some edits done sitting in the passenger seat on the way up on Oscilloscope stuff

4/24/2025

  • I logged into the discord on my phone during lunch break today (also end of the day waiting for a phonecall about a Company Gas Card that’s been acting up
    • Haven’t scrolled through the backlog yet, and granted this was just on OSE’s Discord, not SciHub, Opulo , Rokenbok , or the various 3d printing ones
  • Looks like I’ll probably have to break my “no caffeine on the weekends to keep my tolerance low” rule and get some energy drinks for this weekend, as Saturday is probably THE day to get everything all sorted out+made in terms of application for the OSE Apprenticeship and all that
  • Did a bunch of pressure washing of concrete containment pads today, the paint is really chipping into microplastic hell, i was looking into alternatives for Epoxy Concrete Flooring (Thinking something Boiled Linseed Oil or other Drying Oil adjacent
    • That or Hydrophobic Concrete / a Bitumen topcoat of sorts
    • Also i think i mentioned it before but the Tipjet Style Floor Pressure Washer Attachments are GREAT, the one at work has two handles so controls almost like a floor polisher and is just great (only want would be for it to be a bit more aggressive, perhaps different nozzles, and POTENTIALLY have one with suction to remove excess water; the pooling up reduces efficiency and needed the crew of us to also squeegee that out of the way
    • Having those Garden Hose Y Splitters on the end of hoses + a shutoff Ball Valve on each end to allow stopping flow without Kinking the hose to do so (thus damaging the hose) or allowing quick high flow for filling buckets/rinsing things WITHOUT removing the nozzle/hose would probably be nice for efficiency as well
    • Also the cheap husky plug nozzle sprayers are getting annoying; the apex above the metal adjustment screw keeps on snapping, Buy Cheap Buy Twice (third tome i’ve grabbed an identical replacement from the cabinet in recent memory, albeit split between in front of warehouse and behind warehouse hoses)
      • Either more Skookum plastic/usage of it, or All Metal Sprayer would be worth the investment imo
    • More research on Pressure Washer Quick Connect Fittings that don’t suck/how to reduce that is another point of interest
  • I jump started the shop’s Propane Forklift the other day so felt a bit proud of all that lol
    • A Jump Starter + Battery Charger Cart is definitely nice to have
      • Granted ours (i’ll grab the model number later) is old/cobweb covered so needs some love, also not the BEST
        • Main issue is no Outlets near the row where the Forklifts are parked (pretty far from the Side by Sides too
        • Looking into NEC Electrical Code for Warehouses and other similar buildings has me intrigued on this too, if i remember correctly in houses/offices and whatnot you have to have outlets every x amoutnof feet but the math works out so you never really NEED an extension cord for a vacuum or whatever (granted my janky setups end up using them but i’m sure to buy maximum gauge for the extension cord/power strip, no electrical fires please!)
        • Other issue that is more apparent with the ones we keep in the Spill Response Trailers etc that are basically just a Sealed Lead Acid Battery is where if you hook a lower voltage battery to a higher voltage system to jump start it (such as hooking a 12v Jump Starter to a big rig truck) in theory it turns it into an electrolyser and you get a fire/explosion or at LEAST a ton of hydrogen gas/bubbling acid electrolyte
        • The wall outlet only ones don’t really have this issue, main thing was duty cycle was limited by the Ampacity of the wire/circuit really
        • Supercapacitor Based Portable Jump Starters are neat and there are COTS models going for 100-200 USD if i remember correctly so those are interesting (especially in terms of Disimilar Redundancy , using a Lead Acid battery to save a lead acid battery is a bad idea to me for this reason (although to be fair the sealed ones are a bit more reliable, and they make Li-Ion based units as well)
  • It came up over dinner (something along the lines of “oh what did you get that new webcam for?” ) so i mentioned the OSE Apprenticeship to my parents. Granted my brain was SHOT after work that day (and i also didn’t have my whole Elevator Pitch type deal all set up but yeah
    • They were pretty supportive, albeit a bit concerned/had some reservations
      • ’’’GRANTED TO BE CLEAR’’’ i’m a grown adult and can do my own thing, but also i still have some value for their input and also don’t want to have them think i’m joining a cult/running off and joining the circus etc
    • Main concern was past bad press about having to pay OSE to work for OSE?
      • I’m thinking this is echoes from the post ted talk shitton of funds real fast while y’all were still figuring out how to operate at scale etc, but either way does show some messaging gap / need for some PR type stuff (GRANTED don’t want to go all ultra-corperate hr type creepy, and also can run into the “we’re not a cult” kind of trap)
    • I think one thing to remedy this would be a proper OSE Apprenticeship Contract with info like expected work, pay, benefits and all that all laid out proper
    • I’m rambling but had some thoughts from work from the past few days, wanted to keep you posted on what i did, and what i’m planning on doing.
  • Thanks for reading this far, and just heads up i MAY try and send an email or some talk page edits your way User: Marcin

  • Got just about all the weekend to-do’s done…short of thr Apprenticeship Application
  • Works a but slow today, and i did have an emergency response this past weekend so i might head out early and pick up a better webcam on the way back
    • My Laptop’s built in one MIGHT work but i want to do this proper
    • I don’t know if i’ll go all out and attempt Chroma Keying or just clear some space/be up against the wall for a good neutral background but yeah
  • I have a tank cleaning i’m on in a week or two, but after that (especially if i put in for vacation or put in my two weeks…) i am good to just a pack my bags type deal so yeah
  • I might pickup some more of those Rolling Portable Toolboxes , Dewalt Tough System 2.0 might be the way to go for bulk storage/moving stuff around (while being a step up from Cardboard Boxes (Cockroach Food Risk+Water/Rotting) or Rubbermaid Bins (A bit flimsy, especially with heavier items inside)
    • For actual tools and stuff though Milwaukee Packout and/or Klein Modbox is the way to go for on the go toolboxes (at least until a better Open Source options is developed :3
  • Also didn’t test the Oven on Propane or Wood+Charcoal Yet (Just Ethanol Gel Sterno, and Diethylene Glycol Chafing Fuel )
  • Also need to email naturejab and my engines too
  • Just wanted to keep y’all posted and reiterate that despite a hectic weekend i got stuff done and intend to complete the apprenticeship application soon!

  • So in weeding out old/broken stuff at work i acquired a decent looking Stick Welder
    • Looks like 220 so i’ll have to hunt the garage for one of those outlets
    • Also while stick is kind of a “dirty” process, to was one i did decent at in school and is versitile
    • Also the minor apostrophe of i’ll need to buy rods, MAYBE buy/make a Welding Rod Oven , maybe make a Arc Flash Curtain Hanger out of IMC or EMT and other associated expenses
  • Does make me tempted to make a Cone Tiki Kiln or some sort of SLIGHTLY more advanced Batch Pyrolysis Kiln
  • Or MAYBE a quadricycle
  • Granted materials cost + my cutting ability is probably limited to Abrasive Disc Cutting and MAYBE propane torch cutting or plasma cutting if i got either of those (also would probably start pissing people off turning my place into an industrial zone lol)
  • Also just growing real tired of some aspects of my job so looking into alternatives (granted depending on how these tariffs go down may not be the best time for that)
    • Granted past my 1 Year mark and going so OKAY from a resume perspective and on good terms overall it’s just a whole rant for another time
    • Also if my boss is reading this…don’t worry opsec is clear :3
  • Ember Oven Test + Propane Stove Test + Mantle Lantern Test SHOULD Be this Friday so I’ll keep y’all posted on that
  • I’ll probably shoot an email Marcin’s way (also i should catch up on the discord sometime, it’s been too long!), but I’d figure i’d update you all on some of this stuff here

3/13/2025

  • On the way back from work yesterday, i went to Best Buy and got 2 NVME SSDs
    • A Full Size one that has 4tb (for my laptop)
    • A short one that has 1tb for ny Steam Deck
  • Pricey, so that is never fun, and the risk of them being bricked by ESD etc always has me spooked when building pc’s etc so i did get the warranty (which is probably lowkey a scam, but eh)
  • This does mean though that assuming no suprisw work trips this weekend, i should be able to download ALL the games/simulator software completely on BOTH devices and be good to go on that
  • Probably ordering that TV Cart thing and maybe a Thunderbolt 3 Dock soon too, although those are more “nice to haves” than “will not run withouts”
  • I might burn some per diem funny money on some fun stuff too recently (basically little gizmos lol)
  • In terms of IMPORTANT stuff besides personal savings, i need to get Open Source Taxes together, really want to donate to some of the core dev groups+some charities but i need to do the math and make a spreadsheet etc
  • In particular i was lucky enough to catch NatureJab (YouTube Channel) ‘s livestream of Julian testing his Microwave Pyrolysis Reactor operating in continuous mode for the first time!
    • Also maybe a world first, at least in terms of DIY/OS work and what is documented online in english langage
    • So i REALLY want to throw some coin his way as it is my dream bio-petrochemistrybtype work but he’s actually getting it done, and hardware ain’t cheap!

2/24/2025

  • First off, i seem to accidentally have deleted some stuff in one of these recent edits so I’ll need to add fixing that to my to do list
    • Also probably archiving all non-2025 stuff to make the page run better+be more navigable
  • ANYWHO
    • Most recent pig cleaning was hell, was i kid you not about a 1in or so thick layer of goey sludge on the non-smart tool ones and they used like a whole damn roll of visqueen (plastic sheeting, brand name is related to Viscose if i remember correctly so interesting bit there) to wrap each one so that was BAD
    • New Rule: Noone can say anything pro-Natural Gas (Infrastructure) without first having to go through that gauntlet
    • (Granted problematic aspects of his whole deal aside) I couldn’t seem to find a Dirty Jobs episode on it, idk if it’s due to the secure site nature (I don’t share too much and rarely have photos due to infosec and all that) but yeah
    • Also the the 80-20 Rule or whatever it was is real, the initial sludge removal vs getting to no visible condensate/tar stains or no VOC (or NERM Radioactivity Ratings…need to read up on that…) take VERY different amounts of work
      • Also removable brushes and/or Electromagnetic or Demagnetizaboe Iron Nitride Magnets in pigs would be great, and i clameth prior art on this if someone ends up doing that :)
  • Also did my first (proper, ie not something “boring” like a Frac Tank on company property) Confined Space Entry so that was neat
    • Granted it was basically…just squeegees and pressure washing…cramped in a atmospheric storage tank that for whatever reason has it’s “high leg” position at less than proper height (short of child laborers or abnormally short people I don’t see how anyone could see that design as fine, granted could be worse!, some cleanings had to be done in “low leg” due to it being an emergency/the mechanism failing!)
    • Also the full face supplied air respirator we use have a mode (activated with a red lever switch) that is SORT OF like a PAPR so breathing wasn’t too bad; i have yet to experience the fun of cartridges (although at least with that no cords to tangle, and no Escape Pack Respirator to snag on things like the manway when climbing in/out etc
  • UPDATE ASIDE THOUGH, more ose-work relevant happenings/thoughts:
  • In my experience I actually love the crappy “cheap clear safety glasses” (literally the cheapest no-name brand option at home depot) since they are so light, clear, and have no frame that they kind of blend in (if jot dirty/too scratched up) and i can forget I’m wearing them yet be safe
  • For some ‘’minor’’ situations where that is not my goal i have recently treated myself to some nicer ones (trying Milwaukee brand for now)
    • For the pig cleanings with the Hot Water Pressure Washer (Plus the plastic containment trailer shower curtain esque walls + the thermal mass of the smart tool or metal brush pigs especially + ‘’maybe’’ some of the oils having a fog machine type effect etc) glasses fogging up can be a pretty major issue. While having a fan blow down the row may help a little (have yet to try this), i got a proper pair of Anti-Fog clear glasses
      • Bonus aspect is they are ‘’supposedly’’ more scratch resistant, and have a removable gasket which is nice for splatter
      • Much more of a PITA to clean, are concerning if they get crunched/lost, and don’t “dissapear” in my vision due to the rigid frame (which does admittedly add better impact resistance if i remember correctly)
      • I also don’t know if using Soap or ESPECIALLY Degreaser to clean them will mess with the effect
      • So far only used that Palmolive clear soap (my go to “mild soap”) and “mansize degreaser” (weird af brand name, but gentle enough they let us use it on the smart tool even, the “wildfire degreaser” is WAY better but will lowkey burn your skin off instantly, mansize only will dry your hands out a little and MAYBE do something akin to a ‘’chemical peel’’ (no actual stuff falling off but like outer skin layer seems newer/fingerprint reader gets annoyed) lol
  • Spent ‘’’all of today really’’’ decontaminating my PPE, some gear, and washing trucks
    • In a better work environment this could probably be good “turn then brain off, a podcast on, and work” type labor but micromanaging+other odd bits made it quite stressful and overall not great
    • Also the aforementioned soap/degreaser+just a squeeze cone/jet nozzle on a garden hose does NOT a fast deconning make so it was a bit of “using the wrong tool for the job” and being expected for it to clean up fast.
    • So thoughts on decontamination+ppe/tool cleaning:
      • Always decon on site if possible; the Contamination Reduction Zone is NOT a myth invented by the safety snob
        • I am personally team this, but between long af days/nonsense from that, and others being in a rush to get home some jobs this doesn’t always work out
      • A Proper Wash Bay with Tools+Degreaser and MAYBE a dedicated pressure washer etc would be very nice
        • ALSO Dish Washer as a Parts Washer needs to be investigated, as well as the vapor blasting bit i was looking into, and the Continuous Solvent Distillation+Filtration wash setup I was thinking over
        • Ultrasonic cleaners may be a good option too
      • When degreasing a Hard Hat , the stickers inside come off eventually, are there replacements available as from a compliance snob perspective i can see those not being there being an issue, that or maybe just grab a photo or scan and keep that on record (as well as PPE Inspection Protocols + Logging (akin to Hose Logs )
    • Thoughts on Vehicle Cleaning/Design
      • The trucks had a ton of mud on them from a recent middle of nowhere conpressor station pig cleaning so the rinsing alone did a number
        • Makes me think a drive through rinse bay, or just habit of that alone would be good (especially in areas with Road Salt Corrosion issues etc)
      • ALSO with that some of the wheel well cover things were one large molded piece, the other had two sections with a seam; seams=hidden dirt=bad time, the larger piece/mold IS WORTH IT
      • Also making sure everything has a nice smooth cover and all connections are rated to be pressure washed (maybe even hot water pressure washed, whatever that ISO standard/ stagnag is) is a good MVP item imo
      • and again less critical than cleaning small stuff but having a proper wash bay would be nice
        • Less critical with road legal vehicles as existing commercial car washes could be used
        • Grit Recovery and Oil/Grease recovery from those is interesting from a Product Ecology + Pollution Reduction standpoint (adding similar things for parking lots as well, the sheer oil runoff from a Walmart parkinglot etc is wild, trap than and use it!)
    • Pyromania…errrr fuels and biopetrochemistry stuff:
      • Haven’t had a good bonfire in a while
      • Also upgrading the current Solostove style rdf workflow to one that traps any fly ash/smoke has been on my mind (would also allow for burning plastic instead of landfilling that
        • Using pipe and an old Air Mattress Inflator i could make a design akin to that german wood chip boiler that uses the fuel to filter the exhaust and forced air to overcome smothering issues
        • Main issue is that there is no easy solution for a knife gate for the ash
      • Also still need to try my Vintage Kerosene Blowtorch i got, i could MAYBE splurge for a Kerosene Heater
      • Also may get some ‘’’Propane and Propane Accessories’’’ ; got an old hand me down two burner coleman propane stove, may get a large tank, and a “tree” for it, some hoses, MAYBE a mantle lantern (although in the LED age they are a bit inefficient and not worth it), and also a Refillable 1lb Propane Tank type thing, maybe a propane heater too but those are quite pricey for something i would rarely of ever use
    • Simulator Stuff
      • I kind of put the cart in front of the horse, need more storage space for the games/software so ordering new ssd(s) is in order
      • Arranging it all also ties into overall room organization/maybe campervan type box truck stuff (or just the boring but money incinerating local apartment option) i may get a tv cart type deal that and/or a standing desk i can strap stuff to
      • Granted all of that has a pricetag and big time executive functioning planning energy attatched so that project is getting stretched out
    • Blade Stuff
      • I have two Milwaukee fastback knifes which have been great
      • The razor one is fine as long as i have access to more blades (i got a plastic thing Milwaukee makes that also doubles as a blade bank, although transfer to a proper metal one for recycling/disposal is a must imo)
      • My main issue is the fixed blade one, better for cutting plastic pallet wrap etc , BUT i need to get a good Blade Sharpening Workflow
      • Pull Through Sharpers can kind of work but are frowned upon (with good reason) in the nerd/snob scene
        • There is some 20-40usd tool on Amazon that is sort of a multi sided wetstonw/diamond thing (i ALMOST got the diamond thing at home depot but supposedly that is better, more sides+a hone)
        • Work doesn’t have the right kit for it, but Benchtop Sharpening amd Dremel-Attatchment Sharpening, especially of garden tools is another bit to cover on-wiki of/when i get around to that
      • Some good mostly 3d printed jigs for guided wetstone sharpening too so making one of those is probably in order too
  • ALL IN ALL THOUGH, was just a day with lots of thinking and i wanted to get it out of my brain and on-wiki
  • (also as per usual moar links to add, all sorts of cool DME/OMEX stuff, engine stuff, Charcoal Upgrading Stuff, and i did look into hoses+protocol i was discussing over at Marine Fuels
  • I’ll try and keep you posted, and hang in there y’all, rough times to be reading the news or worse yet living it

2/13/2025

  • Sitting in a work truck parked in the middle of nowhere waiting to clean a pig (Pipeline Pigging not the animal!) but due to weather and ’’’efficient subcontracting’’’ kind of just burning time
  • Documented a VERY cool example of not JUST a working DME engine, but one using that and Methanol for a RCCI engine
    • Methanol is a bit less than ideal, ALTHOUGH good synergy with Syngas and DME Production
